Steve's back...10 Gallon Nano!

So...as I have already mentioned....I have not had to cycle a tank in a very long time! But what is going on?

Sunday the Nitrite was basically 0. The water was almost clear except for a slight hint of color. But today the Nirtrite is so high it is off the chart! How does this happen?

The only thing I did was add a few pellets of food since the Nitrite was so low it was basically gone and I didn't want the bacteria to die off.

The Ammonia is still 0. Nitrite is off the chart high. Nitrate is also off the chart high.

What is going on?

Your tank is cycled and doing its job, it now just needs to get better at it. Do a watery change, keep ghost feeding, and if nitrites are not that bad I would add your first small fish

UPDATE

Tested the tank last Thursday...Everything 0.

Tested the tank last Friday...Everything 0

So I decided to do a water change on Saturday afternoon and then I went to Absolutely Fish. I couldn't resist any longer! Meet my new tiny residents!

Steve, glad to see that someone has finally found Nemo. I was beginning to believe that a good old regular clownfish was more rare than any of these fugly clowns you find everywhere. You definitely have a hit with me and any little kids that come to visit.....Nemo is in the house!

Must be a great feeling finally have fish again! Congratulations.

There's life in there. Congrats and I agree I like the regular old ones a lot better than the white/platinum ones.

Yea....some of those "designer" clowns are just down right UGLY!!!

AF also had 2 Exquisite Maldivian Firefish....the nice one was sold though. I'm keeping my eyes out for another. What a gorgeous fish!

Just got my CUC yesterday. I ordered from John at ReefCleaners. I got his Quick Crew 10 Gallon package which was only supposed to come with 12 ceriths. He sent 150!!! Crazy!

Not many updates as the tank has been ho hum...

I did have an outbreak of what I think was Green Wiry Algae. After weeks of pulling it out and getting no where and my tank getting covered in it, I bought 2 emerald crabs. In less then 3 days the tank was clear!

Now I am fighting cyano. I have dosed red slime remover twice so far and it is starting to come back again. No idea why though. In my old 180...1 dose of that stuff and it never came back even a couple years later.

Also, the tank is boring. Still just 2 clowns, bunch of snails and now 2 emerald crabs, but it is boring. I'm thinking about adding a piece of coral to the top of my rock structure. What do you all recommend? They are the stock LED lights that came with the tank and no skimmer. Take a look at the photo and let me know what you think I should put there.

So....I have been waiting and waiting and the fish I wanted finally popped up again on DD.

I got my Maldivian Exquisite Firefish today. Currently drip acclimating. Will post photo in a couple days.

So my 2 clowns are nipping at the firefish!! I may be re-homing them!!
I would wait a bit and see if they calm down. I wonder if you could quarantine the firefish with one of those drop in breeder boxes they have at petco for 24-48hrs and then release into Main area and see if he still picks on the clowns.

For fish I'm looking at the following:

Neon Blue Goby
Clown Goby
Tail Spot Blenny
Orange Spotted Goby with Pistol Shrimp
Blonde Naso
Purple Firefish
1-2 Clowns
Tanaka's Pygmy Wrasse
White Banded Possum Wrasse

That's a lot for a 10g. I'd stop at the clowns. ;)
Looks good.

It's actually the clowns which I have had alone all this time picking on the firefish.
