An alternative would be to find a battery backup. You might be able to find them at Staples or Office Max, etc. Definitely not as good as a generator, but could give you an extra day of power.

Also, if you have a Vortech pump(s), they make batter backups for just those. They can last up to 48 hours and at least give you some circulation. I have one and it has helped in short term outages for me.

I cannot find a generator anywhere. My budget is $350. Any ideas?

I picked mine up at Sam’s Club in Edison….I think $299. It’s now staged on my porch just waiting…..

I just use a battery backup that I got from best buy for my computer. Worst case scenario ill just plug me return pump into it. That should be all ill need.

We have a power inverter we used it on our lawntractor it kept our system running the whole time any hardware store carries them we paid 50.00 for 750 watts

Interesting. Never heard of it. So you ran your tank off you tractor. Just like a generator would. Do you have a link to it?

Instead of running it off our car battery we just used it on the tractor hooks right up to the battery. The electric company was amazed when we had it running when our transformer blew.

Ok now I dumb when it comes to this stuff. I guess I would need the one that hooks to the battery terminals as opposed to cigarette lighter? Is there a certain wattage I should be looking for?

+1 for that! I"m not looking forward to losing all my goodies!
Ok, as far as my area.... I've called EVERYWHERE!!! Your best bet.... Harbor Freight is getting a shipment into the Vineland and Phila stores at 8am on Monday. First come first serve!
Other than that, no one knows. There was a line outside of Home Depot in Berlin today of about 50 people waiting on a truck that Depot couldn't even guarantee was arriving, and if it even had any generators on it.

Well, I did not find a generator...All I have is a little aerator and two sets of batteries. I'll try to use the aerator sparingly and keep a close eye on my temp if we lose power. Good luck all!

for temp.. wrap the tank in blankets.. that will help keep temps longer.

If there anyone in the toms river area that has a generator and a open sand bed for rent to save my corals? :) We have the power inverter, but not sure if we can run the car for 10 days in the worst case scenario.
