Stupid fish!!!

My are fish so stupid?? My Tailspot Blenny I've only had for a few weeks just jumped!! Dummy!! He was still a bit moist when I found him, but dead!!

I have a Naso Tang thats a baby that lets me pet him. Just for shetz and giggles I put food in a net and he was the only one to swim right into the net and wait there for me to catch him. I once watched him stare at a mirror of himself for like 3 hours. My tank is behind my home office PC so Occasionally I would turn around and watch him hovering staring at himself. Not even attacking or ANYTHING... He fell asleep there as well laying on the mirror. I think he needs a friend.

It took my black cap basslet a few weeks to get over his reflection. When theres food in the water, sometimes he ll swim right up to it and I guess try to block his reflection from getting food. So yea, fish are dumb...

We keep egg crate across the back of the tank (gap bewteen the hood and the tank) to make sure that fish don't accidentally jump out of the tank. Doesn't always stop them from doing something stupid (one jumped onto the cross brace and fried under the halides), but it helps the bulk of the fish from ending up on the floor.

We watched our blue spotted jawfish bop himself in the head last night trying to jump. Thank goodness for eggcrate.

I'm trying to avoid adding eggcrate to the top. I just love the way my tank looks now and spent a bunch ofmoney on stronger lights. I'd hate to add egg crate and have the intensity cut down. And my corals are doing awesome!!

We've got a hallide pendant over the tank, definitely less pretty, but also less chance of a fish on the floor.
We didn't want to add eggcrate, but we REALLY wanted the blue spot. We actually have eggcrate + screening (overkill, I know), but between the mystery wrasse, blue spot, and our picaso clown (which I've watched jump and picked up off of the floor), I'd rather be safe than sorry.

I would steer away from adding more fish prone to jumping then!

It's weird....I've only had 2 or 3 blue chromis jump on me. I have a Bi-Color Blenny for a while now that hasn't jumped either.

And the tail spot was doing really well. Or so I thought, before he committed suicide!!

Wow. I've only ever had one fish jump (up onto the cross brace). It was an angel that was really spooked. 3 or 4 fish jumping seems like a lot, especially when they aren't on the list of typical jumpers. Wonder if there's something going on that is chasing these fish out of the tank. What else do you have in there? What size tank? 1-2# per gallon of rock?

Would a voltage leak cause this?

Well...where do I start....180 with plenty of rock....probably somewhere between 200-250 pounds. Everyone in the tank is VERY happy and this was the first jumper in a while. I did notice that the Bi-Color didn't like the Tail Spot very much.

The rest of my stock list is:

Sailfin Tang
Magnificent Foxface
2 Oscellaris Clowns
3 Blue Chromis
Bicolor Blenny
2 Chalk Bass
Naso Blonde Tang
Orange Spotted Goby

Then some inverts

I don't think it's a voltage leak as I don't get shocked and I do have a grounding probe.

I think Phyl meant if there was another fish chasing the jumpers. If a fish is constantly getting harrassed by a bigger/more aggressive fish it is more likely to jump.

dude was it the tail spot? he was awesome. i've never seen him try to jump even when he was in my biocube (no top and rimless) RIP tsb

Yeah it was!! I'm so mad!! He was doing fine...no one picked on him....all the fish get along. The BiColor wasn't too fond of the tailspot, but wasn't chasing him or anything....I am so annoyed!!

When my fish jump and they happen to make it out of the tank, which it sometime happens.

I just call it suicide, it makes me feel better.

HAHAHAHAHAHAH.
