Suggestions on something Blue...

I was laying on the couch last night, wondering what else I could put in the tank. There was one color that didnt stand out like the rest....blue. I don't have anything blue. The only thing that I could think of at the moment was a nice blue mushroom rock that was just sold on this site not long ago. I'm looking for suggestions on corals that are a bright blue that I could put in. Keep in mind of the light fixture that I currently have. (see sig) I'm pretty much keeping mainly softies at the moment because of that.

Ed. Thanks for the suggestion on the clams. I'm not sure they would do well as I have a decent sized Flame Angel and I would hate myself if the clam was the first thing it started to nip at.

Red. Also, thanks for the suggestion. I have been thinking about trying zoos in my tank. I see that those are pretty saught after. Pricey to boot.

yellow tail damsel.

Cheap, hardy and a bright blue.

They are the least aggressive of the damsels.

edit - though it may beat the chromis I see in there.

That is not a chromis. It is a Staghorn Damsel. Note the stripes in the pic below. Funny that you said that because I purchased them last year at a LFS. They were listed as Chromis @ $1.99 a pop but I knew that they werent so I got three of them. Lost two over the holiday. I made a post about them when I purchased them on here a while back.

Here is an updated pic of the largest one that survived the crash I had. (lost the three yellowtails that I had as well)

funny i've been thinking the same thing myself lately, every other color of the spectrum is available.... blue is tough to find, blue clove polyps are nice, but also expensive..... i've3 been keeping my eyes open for a decent size colony of blue mushrooms

That would be my #1 pick if a nice colony could be found that someone was illing to part with.

I would love to spring for some of those spiderman zoa's but not until I find out how any type of zoa's do in my tank. If anyone has any ugly ones (if there is such a thing) that they would be willing to donate to the cause... ;D Let me know. I'm in Browns Mills, 08015.

if the tang police turn away - a blue hippo or powder blue would work. Maybe we can convince you to upgrade the size of the tank.

Sorry about the mis-id on the staghorn. That fish looks like it would be able to handle any damsel.

hahaha....If I wouldnt get ripped for it, I probably would add one of those. To be honest, I added a 4 1/2 inch Yellow Eyed Cole Tang the week of Christmas ((but ONLY because it was about to be flushed by a friend of a friend)). Within 5 days of adding it, I lost just about everything. Niger Trigger, 1 Coral Beauty, 3 yellow tail damsels, 1 lawnmower blenney and a BTA. So i'm a little weary about keeping any kind of tang. lol However, another friend of mine kicked her husband out and that tank (either a 75 or 90) is going to crap so it might be up for grabs soon. We'll see.

As for the Staghorn... He is the bully of the tank. Even more so than the Gold Banded Maroon. When I added the Flame Angel a couple of weeks ago, the damsel pushed it around for a day and I havnt seen it bother the angel since.

How about a blue chromis, or you could risk a blue linkia starfish, blue spiny lobster, blue urchin, or a cleaner goby is also blueish.

Appreciate the suggestion. I'm leaning towards something in the coral category for the left side of my tank. Or a possible replacement for the Kenya Tree in the center of the pic. I have enough of that fragged in different places as you can see on the far right so the KT might be getting pulled.

I know smcooler was selling tubbs blue colonies for very resonable prices. Also check out Dr. Mac or Mr. Coral in the sponsers area. Both are having big sales on their corals and you can get some nice frags of blue zoas. I went through the same thought process a little while ago and ordered some blue zoas.

Interesting to know that is a staghorn damsel. I purchased some from an LFS a long while ago that were also mis-marked as chromis. Thanks for shedding light on that.

Purple cap (isn't blue, but would still be a cool color), blue digi (easy to keep), blue milli (slightly less easy to keep), blue stag (harder still), lobo (easy to care for, usually more in the teal/aqua family when they're in the blue spectrum), blue chalice (available over the weekend at Ora dealers in the area). Good luck finding just the right piece.

Thanks for the suggestions. Would my lighting be ok with any of the "easy to keep" ones that you mentioned? Do you still have the Staghorns?
