Sump help

I am making a sump for my tank.
I am using a 10 gal tank witch is 10x20 footprint
I set it up with a skimmer section , bubbletrap to the return
My skimmer says it onle needs 4" of water.
Would it be better to make the baffle 4", make a platform for the skimmer, or split the difference

The sump tank is 12" tall
so I'll Make the baffles 9" to be safe in an over uner over config to the return
The skimmer will be on a stand also
Does that sound good

Are you talking about your under being 9inches high? That'll work depending on the size of your display tank. As long as your sump can hold the water with everything shut down.
