np Paul!
I don't know if yours comes with a calibration mic, but if it does, what a time saver!

What would you be using the Wii or Xbox for?

I was thinking games....but what do I know??

I'm now hearing that PS3 plays Blu Ray stuff. Is that something I would want?

As far as feeling young again, I was relying on Grecian Formula and Viagra to do that.

PS3 comes with a Blu-Ray player, and can even PLAY 3D content (if your receiver and/or TV support 3D).
otherwise you would need to spend $200+ to get a blueray if needed one in the future. (super clear images)
it is the best deal for the $. ( vs Wii, and XBox)

being young, is easy... cut your hair short, flip your hat backward, and start to play video game.

David, thanks for the advise. In addition to your suggestions, I’ve purchased a new wardrobe, including pants that have that hip-hop slamming look. Here’s a picture of my new outfit.

Got to admit, I’d be “styling” with pants like that!

I'm also not a fan of a bose,

I'm running a 2.1 setup atm cause I'm too lazy to run my rear speaker wires :x.

I have these speakers http://www.hometheaterhifi.com/volume_13_3/onix-xls-speakers-8-2006.html w/ a panasonic receiver that dose hdmi processing.

My recommendaton would be to get a standalone receiver not one with a dvd player built in keep it separate for quality. If you plan on not running all hdmi I'd recommend find a receiver that can do hdmi processing so your components will be able to transfer the video feed to the tv via hdmi.

Also recommendation is to go to bestbuy or w/e electronic store is enar you and spend a good 30mins - hour listening to the setup before you buy it. Ideally you'd want a movie or show or sample clip that will go from your classical music to your bassy movie scenes (aka The Dark Knight :X).

All depends on your preferences, I have buddies who worked in home theater for all of college and sold magnolia (best buy's hey I have $5,000 to spend on a tv area).

IMHO though I wouldn't recommend Home theater in a box, typically you get sub-par speakers w/ a mediocre receiver. http://www.avsforum.com/ is a great place to start reading or hardforums.com also.

HiFi is kind of like reefing. There are 1000 options, 10x as many opinions, people are loyal to their brands and it's really easy to over spend. If you're looking for home theater and not quality audio IMO go with the 'all in a box'. Granted you get what you pay for but unless you're really into audio the quality increments increase exponentially in price and IMO for movies not worth it. Would you put OJ in Grey Goose? Sour mix in Johnny Walker Blue? If it's primarily for movies anyway why go nuts on that unless you are just looking to spend. If you're looking for audio -different story but for audio (no movies) no need for anything but a solid amp/pre-amp and 2 speakers for that). In reef terms. You can get a bubble magus skimmer or a bubble king skimmer. Theres a clear difference in quality but the difference in price is higher. And audio only is like a FOWLR. You can have the most beautiful colorful fish but all you need is a good skimmer. A really elaborate Ca reactor setup would be a waste.

Also once something gets a good rep they start mass producing and quality drops but price stays high. Happened with Harmon kardon, Sony ES, Polk, Onkyo, definitely Bose (in the 90s Bose was way ahead of its time the 901s were awesome for that time 25 years ago) even my beloved Klispch speakers are overrated and over-priced.

...So how's that for a rant? Anyway it's been more than a decade since A/V was a hobby for me so maybe my opinions are washed up but I can never keep my opinion to myself. I still think its easy to overpay and chances are you will barely hear the difference between a $500 home theater in a box and a $2500 component system. You'll hear a difference but a $2k difference? The ear only hears in the range of 20-20k htz. Why pay for equipment that specs at 12-22k?

Hi everyone, joined this a little late. I'm a two channel fan and dollar for dollar found a well designed two channel can be incredible bag for the $ it is alot like reefing, something for everyone. I've found alot of advice and used equipment on audiogon.com. So when can we come have a listen?? FYI K

I just realized I have spent way to much on audio equiment hahaha. I was huge into it for a while but now the technology as far as the V part of the equation is so advanced I honestly don't think I could see the difference between a 100 dollar blue ray player and a 1000 one. I am a big Yamaha fan for what it is worth. Just be happy with what you got that is all that really matters.

exactly...!

just like shopping for a car:
- if you have tiny budget, then get something that would work (better than walking)
- if you have big budget, then get something that would run (faster then the guys/gals driving next to you)
- if you have unlimited budget, then get something expensive that can run real fast (which you normally driving around ~ 70mph anyway)
:)
