System Piping

I think at the last meeting John and Steve68 said they used Sequence pumps (maybe not the Hammerhead). I think they both said they're great.

Yeah Mike, we're using the Sequence 5800. It's a great pump. It's very quiet and pumps all of the volume we need (so far!). The biggest compliment I can give them is their customer service. We had an issue with our first pump just prior to the 4th of July weekend last year. The pump didn't fail, it was just making a grinding noise. In retrospect, I bet a loose piece of carbon may have found its way into it. Anyway, I called them and let them know I was concerned about it failing during the long weekend and being stuck without a pump for a few days. They said "No problem" and over nighted a new one to me. I just had to give them a credit card number to hold on to until they got the one I returned. I had to pay for shipping but that was OK because after a year of use I got a brand new pump.

Needless to say, I would absolutely recommend Sequence pumps to anyone.

Thanks John. I read a few post on RC and a few folks there said the same thing about the customer service.

Did you get a chance to look at the drawing I posted on what I'm planning? Just curious what you thought.

Looking at the drawing, I have one question: Do you plan to come out of the pump and into a Tee with one leg going straight to the display tank and the other going to your manifold? I'm not sure how well that would work out. Would you put the flow control valve between that Tee and the display to provide the back pressure into the manifold? It's a bit different than my setup, so it's hard for me to envision how well it would work. I guess it would, I just have no experience with a setup like that.

John:
Yes, I was planning on coming out of the pump, into a tee with one leg going to the display and the branch of the tee going to the skimmer. I planned on having 4-5 taps coming off of that branch to feed the other equip. (UV, PO4 reactor, etc.). The flow controller would go in that same branch line to the skimmer so as to set the flow to the skimmer at 900 gph. If you have any other ideas, I'd be interested in hearing them.

I think you'd need something between the tee and your display to force water back to your skimmer (ET AL). Going with the whole path of least resistance thing, I'm sure some of the flow would head in that direction, but I'd think you'd want to ensure that you got enough going that way.

We tried to do something similar to your setup with a pond we did for Phyl's mom. We had a straight leg running out to a waterfall with a tee prior to it to run other components (UV light, filter, etc). It didn't work well at all. We had restrict the flow going to the waterfall so much that it never really panned out right. There was just a weak little trickle coming out of the falls.

I really think you're going to want to go into some central manifold and then split out to your various feeds from there.

JMO. I hope this makes sense.
