TDS

So its about time to change my Ro and pre filters in my RODI, im pushing out around 4ppm right now. Only problem is i don't have the cash at the moment and probably wont till next paycheck which is in 2 weeks. Will this amount of TDS cause any issues? I go through about 5 gallons a week in ATO and another 5 for a w/c so over the next week id probably have to use around 20ish more gallons.

It depends what the 4 tds is comprised of, and that you can't tell. But if it were me I wouldn't be to concerned. Also, you should not have to replace the membrane, just the prefilters and the di.

I totally meant DI not ro. Ive used it probably a total of 6-8 months now, probably on the higher side. not really sure honestly, i went some time without a tank during the winter.

Are you able to get the TDS reading after the filters but before the DI, you might get away with just new DI for a while...

The only problem with waiting is that you don't know if the carbon is almost exhausted. The carbon protects the membrane from chlorine which will kill it quickly. You can safely ignore the sediment block without damage, it will only lower the pressure.

Ill try to take a reading in a minute, but the prefilters aren't that expensive so i wouldn't mind just replacing it all. The RO on the other hands another $40 so if i dont have to replace that ill wait.

Did the unit sit dry when you were without a tank this winter? If so I would look into getting a new membrane. Sitting dry can damage the membrane which does a majority of the work in an rodi unit.

I go a year between carbon changes, 6 months for the sediment and the DI, I replace when I notice the TDS is reading above 0. I don't check the TDS all the time and sometimes it has been around 4 - 8. So, I wouldn't worry too much, just replacing the DI would take care of the 4.
