Temporary holding tank - good or bad

Okay so I am behind in getting the stand built for my 120g; been sick and to much stuff going on.
One night while I was sick I woke up to take some medicine and heard rushing water. I went downstairs and the DT with the temp HOB skimmer overflowed the 5g bucket, probably lost 10g or 15g of water. I longer run the skimmer and spent 2 painful days cleaning the mess. Now that the carpet is stained and old we are going replace it sooner than thought. Here is my plan:

1) Move all fish and corals to a 46g bow front tank I have, not drilled or reef ready.
2) I will not run any skimmers but plan to do 5g weekly water changes.
3) Place remaining live rock in plastic container with a power head.

This is just so I can drain the 75g and move it out of the way so the carpet can be installed.
It will also allow me time to complete the stand.
Does anyone see an issue with this? I don't want to lose any corals or fish.

Thanks,
Mark

I just moved from a 65G to 120 I had all my fish and coral in a 150 gallon stock tank for 2 weeks till the move was done so I don't see a problem with it...

You may want to invest in an ammonia badge. Depending on your livestock, you may also want to do biweekly water changes. Did you move your rock in? Did you add live sand? What are you doing for water oxygenation and nutrient export other than the WC?

Nikki,
I have 2 power heads and add a HOB filter. I know the HOB isn't the best but need sometime to get the dirt out. I plan to do weekly WC and clean the filter pad.
I moved the LR as well; no sand.

To many. Hippo tang, yellow tang, rabbit fish, flame angel, 2 PJ cardinals, 2 clown fish, 2 barred dart fish.

I would get that ammonia badge and do at least bi-weekly water changes, at a minimum.

If you know you have too many fish in there, then you know you have stressed fish. Stressed fish + poor water quality = sick fish.

Another option might be to go buy a 100g+ Rubbermaid (or tank) and relocate the livestock to the rubbermaid, and run the HOB on the Rubbermaid.

You are really running on a very small margin of error with that many fish in that small of a tank, with no skimmer.

I would think it will be tough to keep all those fish healthy in that small space for more than a few days.

I would do more then a 5gal a week water change to be on the safe side. You have heavy bio load and no way to export the waste. The ammonia badge is a good idea.

Well I had a strong feeling this would happen. During the move my large Hippo tang wedged itself into some rock and received a nasty gash on its side. Was swimming a bit clumsy yesterday and this morning its dead.
