Hey Jim, I totally missed this thread somehow. It was looking great as of last post.

Question... what "padding" did you use between the tank and stand? I'm thinking of doing something like that for my new build.

Its thin foam that comes in a roll from home depot maybe 12' wide 50' long , its very thin but just thick enough o do what its mean for.

well this winter sure took its toll on my tank, its pretty much just a smelly glass box at the moment with some random corals left. So im thinking now might be a good time for another upgrade.....
I was thrown into an endless mind frenzy thanks to steve at ultra coral and fish the new db 160 rimless frag tank its 4x4x16,so ill ponder this while im on the beach in florida in 3 weeks and see where this thread goes.

Ok
So with winter over and my florida trip behind me and a few inbound orders coming It was time to reboot the system. I started with draining the tank taking out the old black sand and replacing it with special grade reef sand and a puka shell substrate added more live rock from other systems I'm taking down. Pics will follow shortly.

Ok so the pics are taking longer than I thought, but with work and my birthday today and hanging with the family I just havent had time.
But Ive added some items to the tank,I got a cleanup crew from reef cleaners couldn't ask for a better transaction, a tuxedo urchin from petco $5.99 couldn't go wrong for that price and I also grabbed some red gracilaria for $1.99 again couldn't go wrong.

well its been almost a year without an update but for good reason,2 days after christmas I lost my dad.
In the time he was sick and this crazy wnter the tank has suffered beyond belief,Ilost almost every coral and most of my fish because it just wasnt a priority to me,heres a current pic.

I was going to rip it down and call it quits but my wife said fix it for my dad..... so I will attempt to do that,I got some chemiclean since I have nothing to really lose so lets see what happens.
Ill update when I can

Sorry to hear about your Dad. I think it's good to try and bring your tank back, I know mine is a nice reminder of color with this blah winter. Chemiclean works great, your skimmer will go crazy for days and you will have to do about a 25% water change to be able to skim again.

Thank you.
I shut down the skimmer for the first day of treatment I'll see what tomorrow brings maybe I'll put online depending how things look.

Very sorry to hear about your father. Best of luck turning the tank around, it's going to be a good amount of work but in the end I think you will be happy with it.

Jim, my deepest sympathies to you and your family. Without question you need to revive that tank as a remberance to your dad.
