The Hummers Have Returned

We had company over tonight and were sitting out on our porch where I have our humming bird feeders. I filled it about a week or so ago. A male hummer came in to feed. First one we've seen this season. Seems early, but they are back. Get those feeders out there.

I was expecting to read about a new hummer you designed and built made to run on H2O or something similar buttt anyway that is neat. Never saw one in real life

You will need a hummingbird feeder:

Walmart sells a nice glass feeder for around $15.

I make my own food......1 cup regular table sugar made up to 4 cups with water. To first attrack them, make 1 cup sugar made up to three cups with water...this super sugar water really attracts them.

We've had our feeders out for a couple weeks and haven't seen any yet. I guessed they bypassed south jersey this year.

I have a couple of those plants not blooming yet. We saw our first one on Saturday. Bats are back too....maybe they will live in the bat house I built for them 5 years ago...probably not.

Hey guys saw these in the clearance bin at work. .70 each and there's over 20. If anyone wants them I can bring em to the meeting just let me know by 9 pm. Figure about $20. There was at least 22uploadfromtaptalk1403305924854.jpguploadfromtaptalk1403305937318.jpg

For those making you're own "nectar", for the first time, one cup sugar to a total of three cups. Once you start to attract hummers, one cup sugar to a total of four cups. I use a four cup Pyrex measuring cup to make up my sugar solution....slightly warmed water in the microwave, before adding the sugar. I actually continue with the stronger sugar solution during the season......1 1/4 cups sugar made up to four cups. My hummer's love it!

Anyone see Hummers yet? I've actually had to dump my first load of nectar because it started to go white (guessing bacteria), and sanitize the feeders. Haven't seen a one yet!
