I wanted to share my absolute favorite creature for eating algae in the reef tank. And the award goes to... The lawnmower!
If anyones actually curious these guys are called stomatella snails. The first picture is of a line that I watched one clean in about 10 minutes. They're a little strange looking but I think they're really cute. I panicked when I first found one thinking it was some coral eating flatworm but with some help found out what they really were. These little guys are nocturnal so you don't have to see them climbing over everything during the day, although you will spot them every so often. They grow fast and are very hardy. This snail I've had for about 2 months and he was so small when I got him I didn't notice him on the 2" monti cap frag I bought.
I now have about a dozen of these guys and they are great. I have no clue why they aren't as popular as trochus snails or seen for sale at all! They put the snails I pay money for to shame lol
