Thinking about getting a tank again!!

Well a lot of you know me, but some of you might not. I used to have a small 450g reef tank. But life changes and things need to change. But after putting the last couple months into MACNA, it really made me realize, I miss the hobby! Money isn't that great right now. So I am trying to figure out what size tank to setup. I was trying to get a rimless tank at MACNA but then you need to spend a lot of money on a light. So I might go for a 90g tank right now. I have some icecap ballasts and sockets, so a DIY light would cost nothing. But for the people that know me, do you think I will be happy with a 90g? Since I can't spend a lot, I think it would work out. I will price the 120g too, since its almost the same footprint. Any inputs for you guys is appreciated!!! Hopefully I can be trading frags in a few months!!

A 120 is a good size setup. I'd prefer the 2' depth front to back over the 18" dimension. We were happy with that until the 180 fell into our lap. I think you could be happy with 120 for a long time! Keep your eye out for a used 120 setup. They roll by all the time. Lighting is taken care of and we used a mag 12 (with a 15 impeller) to feed it.

Of course you already have the chiller for it!

What ever you get, I can donate an IceCap pendant and their 250 watt ballast.
Welcome back.

First of all, welcome back and thanks for coming back and helping all make MACNA as great as it was. I agree with Phyl 100% on the 120. anytime anybody asks me, I tell them don't bother looking at the 90...If you have room for a 90, you have room for a 120 and will be much happier with that 6" more when aquascaping. I know you have the room...LOL

What I don't agree with Phyl is the chiller. That chiller was used to working on the 450 so I think any size tank you are currently looking at will turn into an ice cube! ;D Just Kidding

I think you would be much happier with the 24" wide. I have an 18" and it's way too tight.

billy welcome back to the hobby obsession

if you want i have an old 90 gal non r/r sitting in the garage looking for a new home, no stand.

Hey Billy. Welcome back. I never got to see your 450g display but I heard it was really nice. I have a 90 and its a little to tight. I would go with a 120. Looking forward to see the build. Good Luck.

I knew you would break!

Like I told you @ MACNA I have a bunch of live rock in my fuge that your welcome to. You could use it to seed the rock you get from Ed! :)

Go with the 120g!

thanks everyone!! Well I thought work was going to be better when I got back from MACNA, it is not!! One of my best friends got laid off today from our company, so now we are down to two guys (counting me!). So Billyr98 tank thread will be on hold again :( But one day it will be started again!

Hi,
I had a 75g reef which I grew out of and couldn't afford to by a bigger tank and spend alot of money a lighting system so I went with a 120 (48ins long) so my light wasn't to much as it could have been if I went bigger and 40 gallon sump.
So bottom line 120g I think is just right for the money.
