Sorry for the loss of you Naso. I know how it feels to lose a fish you are very attached to. Hang in there bud! We will get your problems fixed even if it means I have to come over every day after work!
Steve
Sorry to hear about the Naso. Though i have a fowlr i had a similar situation in my tank two years ago. Between the algae and continous parasite attacks i was ready to give up. As some suggested, I cooked all the LR, put my remaining fish in QT and left the DT fallow for two months. Also did a 75% water change. Since then i absolutely do not put anything in my tank unless its been in QT for a minimal 4 weeks. Six weeks for fish that are more prone to ich like tangs. Also treat all fish with prazi and cuppramine before going in the DT. To this day i've never had another parasite or algae issue . I know some may not believe in QT but I'd rather have a fish die in a QT than for it to wipe out an entire tank! Good luck.
Thank you everyone for your words of encouragement!! Like I said...this is the first time I have ever lost one of my "prized" fish. It really stung!! Especially since it was the most friendly fish in the tank....it would let you pet it!!!
Anyway....I will give the tank a little more time. I've been pulling out pounds of bryopsis. My mag is up over 1500...haven't tested it using Paul's dilution method to find out the exact amount, but it is not Tech M. I talked to some others who have killed it with the same stuff I have from BRS.
The aptasia I have been injecting with a lye/kalk mix....Eric Bourneman's recipe. It seems to knock them out, but then a week goes by and they are everywhere again. I know I am not getting all of them, especially the ones on the bottom of my rockwork, behind my rock work. Some of these things have an oral disc larger than a quarter. They are unreal.
I also just found that one of my rocks that had hydroids has them once again...so I'm going to have to pull that rock out and hit it with a torch again!!
But I am going to give it a little more time. But if the tank hasn't gotten better after the next 2 months or so...then I have a really difficult decision to make!!
I don't want to empty the tank...I have too many corals that are actually doing well and I don't want to ruin them...I love some of these pieces.
So, any and all help is more than appreciated!!
Thanks again everyone for all the kind and encouraging words!!
With the aptasia I just put a racoon butterfly in and he took care of it for me. Then I moved him to the sump and put pipermint shrimp in to keep it in check. I agree with the tech m for the byropsis it worked great in my tank. As for the loose of the fish I feel for you I have lost many over the years due to power loss desease, my own stupidy, like every hobby it has it up and downs. But the ups usualy beat the downs.
