Thinking About Throwing in the Towel

Get a few urchins[tuxedo and pincushion]. My tank was covered in GHA. After a month, it is almost gone. These guys are awesome but they do pick up everything they can find and will wear it around your tank. They work better than any snail or CUC I have owned and are hardier than a sea hare.

You say your snails keep dying is it possible you have Lyngba? This is similar to GHA but toxic and can kill snails.

I had one for two years, but it died as the tank started going to crap. I did pick up another one though.

I'll look into this. I think the last batch died because I forgot to aclimate them. I do have a bunch in there, but they're small and I do need more.

Has anyone here that used Vibrant for GHA kill anything else other than the algae. I’m scared to try it on my GHA since I heard its actually an algaecide and can harm your tank.

@Rossim2i2 I was at the point of throwing in the towel 3 weeks ago. I had turf algae waving to me everytime I passed my tank.
Tried lot of things including vibrant to know avail.

I ended up dosing reef flux into the Tank and while that was taking root I cleaned every piece of equipment and ripped out every piece of turf algae I can see or reach. I also changed my rodi cartridge.
All of these was basically a redication to the hobby. It’s hard work and nature never lets things get out of wack. So the critters are not going to do the heavy lift. You have to level the playing field by using a lot elbow grease. Grab a toothbrush and scrub as much rock as possible then put the pumps on high and let it get skimmed and filter out. Dose some vibrant (3/4 recommended Amt ) do help and keep working the toothbrush till it’s all gone

after this check all your levels (forget phos and nitrate. Numbers will lie since you have algae) change your filter and commit to more rigid husbandry.

Have you tried ReefFlux? I have personally and IMO, it does work against GHA and Bryopsis. Completely harmless to the fish and coral (as long as you follow the directions) but as a side affect, you will encounter a cyano outbreak afterwards.

If the snails keep dying, then you may not have GHA but may have Bryopsis. The snails could be starving to death.

I used it in the past, never had a problem with it killing anything. I always under dose everything. Still have a bottle was thinking about doing the maintenance does just to use it up.

I finally beat GHA by going to weekly water changes to increase manual removal, added a refugium and added 2 tuxedo urchins

Have you seen any negative side effects of Vibrant?
Vibrant has been a cyano disaster for me. I've used it in two different tanks and both times had large explosions of cyano. Still battling it along with all kinds of algae. Frustrating, but had this before with my 30.

So I started using vibrant (actually need to dose again today) and have been manually removing. Now I've noticed a significant amount of salt creep coming up from the bottom of the glass. Is this normal? Or should I be worried about I bigger leak?

Not sure about salt creep, but def keep us updated with Vibrant. I just started GHA treatment yesterday with Flux Rx. Curious to see how Vibrant works since it’s an algaecide and should work. Hair algae sucks!
