Thoughts on Bangai Cardinal Fish?

Hi guys,

I have a percula and a strawberry pseudchromis. Thinking bout adding 3 bangai's to my 30G cube. Good combination?

The percula and the pseudochromis are a good match as both are aggressive. The cardinals will most likely be bullied to the point of starvation. IMHO.

Got it. I think I'm thinking of kauderns cardinals but i assume that's immaterial. Any suggestions? Would love something that schools.

If you're going to try the bangai's, probably just 1 or a true male - female pair. I believe they'll kill the odd one, once they grow up. I've kept them single twice and they do great that way. But, had a strawberry pseud once and wow was it aggressive, mine even bullied damsels. It might be hard to find another fish for a 30 gallon with the strawberry. Good luck.

Yeah they do not do well in groups. Once a pair is established they will kill the third. We raised a juvenile group and had to separate them as they grew.

Love bangaii's. But not good with pseudo. Also correct on the trio, one will either get left out or killed. If you want a school of them add at least 7+ and you might have success, but not that many in 30

Many a plan was wrecked by a pseudochromis.:hopelessness: The only one that appears to be nice is the Orchid dottyback. Nice that it is a beautiful fish. Had a bicolor and it was Satan in fish form.

You were all completely right. I decided to try it, and I returned the bangai's after just a few days.

My clown and the pseudochromis still get along fine, but I am bummed I can't add more fish than just these two. At least I got a few good photos of the cardinals while I had them.

Lesson learned!
