Tim's 180 semi-in-wall

Going to start this thread to document my 180 build. I was going to go bigger, but a lack of available extra $$$ became a factor. New equipment purchased so far is an apex, a 1/2 hp chiller, an AquaMaxx ConeS-CO2 skimmer, 3 eBay led lights, and 2 Gyre 150s. Picked up a used 180 from a guy in queens off of Manhattenreefs. It has a internal overflow setup for a beananimal. Sump purchased used off Ls2Goat last week.

The sump had a leak in the back panel. I put some Weldon 4 on the seam today and will attach a rod later this week to strengthen the joint.

I plan on having a few different backgrounds. One is a giant wall mural I found on the internet. #2 will be a plain black panel. 3rd will be a shadowbox with scuffed acrlyic to give a fuzzy depth appearance. #2 and 3 will be on some kind of pulley system so I can raise or lower when the mood strikes me.

Today, I put the mural up on the wall, leveled and secured the stand and hung the light bar.

That's really cool! Looking forward to seeing it come together.

I have this amazing vision in my head...hopefully it will translate into reality. I took a small step back in the biuld process. I pulled the stand so that I can paint it. I want to prevent any issues with the raw wood absorbing water. Hope to finish by this weekend so I can set the tank.

Looking good so far. My stand is the next thing on my list, along with cutting a hole in the wall. Wish i could have went bigger as well, but you still got me beat by 45 gallons.

Also return plumbing done. Bean animal drain. Lower gate valve is for micro adjustments to dial in bean. Other two valves are for water changes. Process will be: 1. Turn off sump return pump. 2. close upper valve. 3. Open valve on right dogleg. 4. Turn on basement mixing station pump. Fresh water will be pumped up and enter on left side of tank and old water drains over overflow down the dogleg. The only ? left for me to decide is do i connect dogleg to the house waste or do i just gravity feed it outside the house.IMG_20151212_102036712_HDR.jpg

Water test a complete success. No leaks in any plumbing. DC pump is completely silent. Dialed in the bean animal drain pretty quickly so the only noise was a slight trickle in the sump where the filter socks will be. Very excited.
