To the best dog a man could have....

Well, my 12yr old Golden Retriever, Bear, had to be put down today. Worst experience of my life especially bc it was my call to put him down. He was such a great dog but suffered from Lymphoma recently and it took its toll pretty quickly on him. He also had very very bad hips :( I miss him already! Here's a pic of him...
Rest easy buddy, we love you!

I'm sorry for your loss bro. I put down my 8yo pug back in October due to diabetes. She was diagnosed and a month later she went blind. Two months after her liver gave out and I also had to make that call. I know what you're going through but the best thing to remember is that Bear will no longer suffer. You did the right thing bro.

Thanks guys, I know he's better now, just never know how much he really means to ya til something like this happens. Unbelievable

So sorry for your loss Dan....I have two pits and I can not imagine the time my dogs have to part.

Thanks everybody, I guess it makes it easier bc I didn't live with him for the past 2 1/2yrs. I just feel for my dad bc he did everyday and that's all he had :/

The feels man the feels, we had an 11 year old golden we had to put down. It will get better in time, just know he is at peace.

I have a 3 year old golden now, he reminds me of our old one. Such great dogs.

Just this side of heaven is a place
called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially
close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows
and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.

There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and
comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to
health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,
just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The
animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss
someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run
and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the
distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins
to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster
and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend
finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.
The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head,
and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from
your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow
Bridge together....

Thank you for that, that was really nice to read :) I am happy hes in no more pain. I'm just gonna miss him so much.

When we put down my Rocky I cried like a baby for about a week. Time is the only thing that will help you heal, trust me.

When the time is right maybe look into adopting a dog or getting your dad another puppy. Going from having a dog in the house to not having one was too difficult for me.

If you need anything let me know.

Sorry to hear the sad news Dan. I'm sure it was a tough call but it was the right one. Ending the pain and suffering he was going through was much better than the alternative.

When I read this I almost cried myself. I had a black lab mix that we had to put down last year on Easter Day. I've had three dogs in my life and he was by far the most meaningful to me. We had to put him down because he got cancer. He had just turned 9 years old a few weeks before we had to put him down. There was something about him that just was amazing how he could connect with me. As soon as anyone in my family would start to get upset or depressed, we would look up and he would be right there pawing at us to try to make us laugh. He could sense how we were feeling from a mile away. Truly an amazing dog. It broke my heart when we found out he had cancer. There was one thing that my mom told me that still sticks in my head to this day, eventually all of the sadness and emotions that you feel now will turn into good memories and you will think of him and you will remember how he put his paw up to make you feel better, and how he use to catch the ball in mid air.

These situations are very hard to deal with. But like others have said only time will heal. Tell your dad I will be praying for him and you too. I agree when the time is right consider adopting a puppy. A dog is a mans best friend, it's so true.

Andrew that is so true. my brothers dog had cancer, I paid for chemo and it didn't work, but I'll be damned if until the end he didnt wag his tail and love unconditionally. When they say a dog is a man's best friend they aren't kidding.
