I have an mp10 in our 30g and we have the mp20 sitting in a box waiting to setup our new tank. I love the vortech pump, that is why we now have two. It is so customizable and easy to use that I don't think I could every buy another pump. The footprint inside the tank is so small which is nice.

I jumped into the Vortech world as well with a MP40 and i love it. i haven't made a wave yet on the 120 but usually leave it in Reef Crest mode. The Space it takes up is nothing compared to the Koralia Magnum 6 i had before and i'll be getting another vortech in the near future.

i am thinking of jumping on the band wagon with the mp40. still deciding. but with all the flexibility and performance. looks like i'll take the plunge!

I have the 40 and think it's great. The only downside is of course the price. For this kind of mony i'd like to be able to direct the flow like you can with cheaper pumps (seio's or koralias that start at only 20 bucks).

I got a 20 for my standard 55G. almost wish i had gotten the 40 because i still have to supplement the flow on the far side of the tank with a leftover koralia.

I have 2 MP40Ws on my 46 (future upgrade)and I love them!. Watch when you start to play with the wave. I splashed about a gallon of water over the side playing with the pulse mode!

I'll stick with my Tunzes. The Vortech demos are neat at MACNAs, but it seems to me that over half of the used Vortechs offered for sale these days have just had their wet side repaired/replaced under warranty. My LFS has ordered a number of replacement wet sides for customers. Interesting how reliable some German engineering is compared to our own. I'm even considering replacing all my Mag pumps with Eheims - just wish the Eheim 1264 Hobby Pump was available in a 120v model.

I'd sort of wonder if those vortechs needing fixing were older model Vortechs or if people took the time to clean them occasionaly

We'll never know, but if they weren't properly maintained maybe they wouldn't have been fixed under warranty.

I've been running my oldest Tunze (a 6000 bought used) on a Tunze controller for four or five years now. I had to clean it once, about three years ago.

I thought the Mp20 and the Mp40 were the same except for the wireless controller? I picked up a used 20 with a bad wet side. The kid said his brother walked into the dry size and misaligned it. The wet side was out of balance, and the plastic housing was warped. Pretty nuts. But now that I have one I totally love it. So easy, semi-discrete, and simple to use. I put it on my 29 bowfront because it was a little nuts in my 24 NC. Worked out well, although it scared the crap out of my picasso clowns for a few days haha.

it came in the mail today, i knew this thing was hardcore by the weight of the motor. Still cant believe i got one brand new for 230 shipped! Anyway its pretty easy to set up and just takes a few minutes to figure out the modes.

Things I've noticed right away:

1) The amount of detritus that got lifted up is amazing (29g) I am really happy with that compared to my 2 K-2 pumps that were in there. That should make for more effective skimming.

2) I think I put the pump too low, its about 5 inches below the surface of the water so the waves are not as high. Ill move it up tomorrow.

3) My frogspawn extended its tentacles out as soon as this thing kicked in, maybe its coincidence but im thinking that the pump is simulating a more natural environment than a normal powerhead would.

I'll update any changes if need be.
