What is the best way without disturbing the sandbed too much in the refugium? My sump is cracked and leaking pretty bad. I hate to start all over, being that refugium is full of life. :-\

Unfortunately, there is no best way when dealing with sand 
You really just have to grin and bear it. Because this is your refugium and not tank, I would use a sand shovel and dump it into your new sump, there will be lots of life in it still. I would not hook up to the main tank though for a few days to give the sediment a chance to settle. If this is not feasible I would dump 90% of the sand and start with fresh sand, use the other 10% to seed it. Don't forget to run a heater and tiny pump if you go with using it all.

Is your current sump a glass tank?
If so can you get one a little bigger,put your old sump inside and just cut the silicone and leave the bottom glass in the new one?

We helped a friend with a 300 gallon and he just transfered everything from his old sump to the new one without any problem it might get a little cloudy just run carbon and it will clear up pretty quick.
Could have both, how deep is the sandbed? How long has it been up and running? How much stirring happens to the sand?roadking05 said:
