Trigger Safe Cleanup Crew??

I would like to put some sort of clean up crew in my tank. The problem is that I have a Niger Trigger that I know loves to snack on snails, crabs, shrimp and such. Sure enough took care of my emeralds that I have not seen since I put him in the tank. Is there such a thing as a safe cleanup crew for my fish?? 1 Coral Beauty, 1 Niger Trigger, 1 Gold Banded Maroon Clown and 3 Staghorn Damsels. Plus one Brittle Starfish that I plan on getting out of there asap due to stories I have heard.

what kind of brittle starfish? Is it the green kind? Ophiarachna incrassata is the only one to wary of.

As for the trigger - you have to either kept it well fed and *maybe* it won't bother others...but I am unaware of any safe crews. They generally don't eat the magfloats though. ;) Seriously - for the glass, I'd just keep the magnet handy.

For the sand - you could get a cuke - I don't believe a trigger would attack that (though I'm not certain). For the LR - well, let's just make sure the coralline takes hold before any nuisance algae.

For our tank with the eel and other non-reef safe fish, I tend to buy a bunch of snails, put them in and watch them slowly get eaten until I buy them again. I can't be without a CUC (I've seen the result of that), but they sure don't last too long. Glad we're having a group buy on invert next month. I need them!

The starfish is not green. It's black. No worries?

Yes, I love my mag float. ;D Kids come over and think its the coolest thing and ask if they can move it across my tank. I never turn them down. haha

As for the Cuc... Any one in partucular I should look for?

Hmmm...some sacrificial snails.

This is too funny.

Starfish are omnivorous - brittle stars are generally excellent scavengers - though they could always take a helping of something meaty if offered. The only fish-eater that I know of is the green kind - so if it's black - it is likely just a scavenger.

In terms of cukes - you want one from the carribean - it's generally ugly and drab looking. Do not get a filter feeding cuke. Besides being hard to keep they also tend to be the colorful ones with a lot of toxin.

The one problem with owning a cuke is that it looks dead...that is - it's really slow when "alive". Therefore one tends to ignore/forget about it. Caught in LR and if it were to die - think about taking a huge batch of Formula One - and then just dumping it in the tank. That would be the same as letting a cuke rot in the tank.

So that would be my only caution - if you get one, just occasionally make sure he's alive. A sign of activity is the strands of sand poo. Oh and they prefer sugar-grade sand. I think Phyl and John have one in (one of) their tank.
