Tripod for Canon DSLR and maybe camcorder

Anyone have recommendations on a decent tripod.

Definitely not a professional, so I am not looking for high end, but also not looking for bottom of the barrel.

I just bought THIS one.

It's made well, and holds a decent amount of weight. Sets up and breaks down easily and comes with a nifty little bag to store it as well. :)

I have a Manfrotto similar to this one. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/505879-REG/Manfrotto_by_Bogen_Imaging_055XPROB_808RC4_055XPROB_Pro_Tripod_Legs.html

The manfrotto's are heavy, but they don't wobble at all and I trusted it with high end film cameras and all of my film cameras. (get a head separate from the base that fits what you need to use it for)

I have been using it for about 11 years, including some abuse when I worked at the newspaper. They make a nice tripod. I think they now make some lighter weight cheap ones for entry level too. Gitzo also makes a nice tripod.

Just stay away from slik and sunpak unless you want something cheaper.

I would say yes to the quick release. It is a lot better when you want to take it off the tripod for a shot and safer to have. (don't want to cross thread anything) A good panhead is nice for doing video. The ball heads are more suited to photo with a lighter weight camera.
