urgent/not so urgent

I have come up with a list of questions that I was hoping you guys could help me out with. I'll start off with the questions that I need ASAP.

1. I have two big bulky older tunze pumps and the tunze 7095 Multicontroller. About a month or so ago I was sitting around in my house and I heard a high pitch screeching sound that was so loud I think my neighbors could hear it and it was coming from my fish tank. So I ran to my fish tank scrambling around trying to figure out what the noise was coming from and I finally was able to figure out that it was coming from the back of my stand where there are these two metal boxes attached to the walls that is a part of the wiring of my tunzes. I unplugged the wires and the sound stopped. I did some playing around with it trying to figure out why it did that and I also took one of the pumps out and cleaned all of the yuck out of it. I still couldn't tell why it did that so I plugged them back in and they were working fine and the noise stopped.Until yesterday the sound had not happened again. This also happened today. I know it has something to do with the tunzes but I don't know why it is doing it. If someone could please help it would be much appreciated. I was told by someone that it may be the motors?

2. I have had problems keeping SPS coral on and off throughout the years and I was always focused on getting my Alk, Cal, Mag etc. back to what it should be. I never really gave much thought to anything like the temperature though. Today, after I got back from getting a pair of anthias, I was checking out my tank and all of the odds and ends making sure everything was running properly and I saw that on my aqua controller Jr it said my temperature was 83.3 degrees. So I went into my sump and looked at the heater and it said it was set to be making the tank 71 degrees. There was no light showing from the heater and I felt it and it was burning hot. I remembered that I had questioned the temperature before and that was why it was set to be 71 degrees. I started to take the heater out to see what what was wrong with it and this weird stuff looked like it was coming from the heater. It reminded me of when I had a freshwater tank and I used that stress slimy stuff for the fish. It looked like there was this clear slimy substance coming from the heater. I got it out of the tank and it wasn't shattered or broken in any way that I could tell. Do heaters malfunction? It is a Ehiem Jager 25 watt heater.

3. I have a frag of palythoas that haven't opened in a while and I have moved it gradually all over the tank to try to get it somewhere it likes but they still won't open. I have lots of zoas/palys frags and colonies that are doing great. I am wondering if it has film algae on it? How would I tell if it does and would that affect the frag?

not so urgent questions now-

1. I have a little rock with 3 or 4 different types of zoas and palys on it and one of them is starting to overide the whole rock. Is there anything I can do so they don't grow over the others? I like them, they are just too close to each other and some are starting to grow on rock around it so they are half on each rock sort of.

2. I had some frags on the sand bed and as the sand cleared out of the area the bare glass bottom was and is exposed so my frag of salted agaves started growing onto the glass. There is now two polyps on the glass and I was trying to figure out a good way to get them off and on a plug. Any ideas?

3. Random question- Are a Teneti tang and a blue hippo tang the same shape? Understanding each fish are individuals, do you think that with the general knowledge of each of these fish that they would be ok together in a appropriate sized tank etc.

Thank you for taking the time to look,
Andrew

2A. Sounds like the heater may have cracked or come unsealed. yes they can malfunction but if you are controlling it with a controller there should be no electricity going to it.
3A. Try leaving it alone in a good spot. Might just need some time, you can give it a shake to see if it is covered.
2B. Likely could use a razor, will let someone else chime in.
3B. Hippo tangs are sort of the least tangish of all tangs. I wouldn't put those two tangs in less than a 120. If you have that size or larger you should be OK. That is sorta anti tang advice but I have had hippo tangs with two desjardini and one naso tang with no problems. Just make sure you introduce them to tank at the same time.

Thank you for the feedback.
2A. The heater wasn't hooked up to the aqua controller jr. It was plugged in the socket on the wall. I was just seeing what the temperature was with the controller since I don't have a normal thermometer. I have taken the heater out and cleaned it and I don't see a crack anywhere. How would I tell If there was a leak? Also since the heater wasn't plugged into the controller, could it have malfunctioned?

3A. I will leave it alone for longer than what I have and see if that makes a difference.

2B. I was thinking of something like that or maybe the glass scraper razor blade?

3B. I have a 144 gallon but it was just a thought. I'll keep it in the back of my head when I'm picking out other fish. Just curious, what do you mean when you say that blue hippo Tangs are sort of the least tangish of all tangs?
Thank you for your help!

Any advice at all is greatly appreciated.

i believe you are hearing the driver alarm although i do not know what model tunze pumps you have. check out the following link and let me know if it works.

LigerShark, thank you very much! It looks like that is exactly what it is. Especially since when I took the tunze apart the first time to clean it the noise didn't happen for a month.

2A Yes it could be malfunctioning. If something came out of it sounds like a leak. I would replace it.
2B Sounds reasonable. Again maybe someone will chime in.
3B. That sized tank you should be fine for those two tangs. The hippos are shapped less like some of the other tangs. They also seem to eat more meaty foods than some of the other tangs. I can see my hippo and desjardini going back and forth across the tank together as I am typing...I have a 120. You should be fine really. Just put them in together, try to make sure they get QT'd. Putting them in together will not allow one to set up a territory before the other one comes in.
