I have come up with a list of questions that I was hoping you guys could help me out with. I'll start off with the questions that I need ASAP.
1. I have two big bulky older tunze pumps and the tunze 7095 Multicontroller. About a month or so ago I was sitting around in my house and I heard a high pitch screeching sound that was so loud I think my neighbors could hear it and it was coming from my fish tank. So I ran to my fish tank scrambling around trying to figure out what the noise was coming from and I finally was able to figure out that it was coming from the back of my stand where there are these two metal boxes attached to the walls that is a part of the wiring of my tunzes. I unplugged the wires and the sound stopped. I did some playing around with it trying to figure out why it did that and I also took one of the pumps out and cleaned all of the yuck out of it. I still couldn't tell why it did that so I plugged them back in and they were working fine and the noise stopped.Until yesterday the sound had not happened again. This also happened today. I know it has something to do with the tunzes but I don't know why it is doing it. If someone could please help it would be much appreciated. I was told by someone that it may be the motors?
2. I have had problems keeping SPS coral on and off throughout the years and I was always focused on getting my Alk, Cal, Mag etc. back to what it should be. I never really gave much thought to anything like the temperature though. Today, after I got back from getting a pair of anthias, I was checking out my tank and all of the odds and ends making sure everything was running properly and I saw that on my aqua controller Jr it said my temperature was 83.3 degrees. So I went into my sump and looked at the heater and it said it was set to be making the tank 71 degrees. There was no light showing from the heater and I felt it and it was burning hot. I remembered that I had questioned the temperature before and that was why it was set to be 71 degrees. I started to take the heater out to see what what was wrong with it and this weird stuff looked like it was coming from the heater. It reminded me of when I had a freshwater tank and I used that stress slimy stuff for the fish. It looked like there was this clear slimy substance coming from the heater. I got it out of the tank and it wasn't shattered or broken in any way that I could tell. Do heaters malfunction? It is a Ehiem Jager 25 watt heater.
3. I have a frag of palythoas that haven't opened in a while and I have moved it gradually all over the tank to try to get it somewhere it likes but they still won't open. I have lots of zoas/palys frags and colonies that are doing great. I am wondering if it has film algae on it? How would I tell if it does and would that affect the frag?
not so urgent questions now-
1. I have a little rock with 3 or 4 different types of zoas and palys on it and one of them is starting to overide the whole rock. Is there anything I can do so they don't grow over the others? I like them, they are just too close to each other and some are starting to grow on rock around it so they are half on each rock sort of.
2. I had some frags on the sand bed and as the sand cleared out of the area the bare glass bottom was and is exposed so my frag of salted agaves started growing onto the glass. There is now two polyps on the glass and I was trying to figure out a good way to get them off and on a plug. Any ideas?
3. Random question- Are a Teneti tang and a blue hippo tang the same shape? Understanding each fish are individuals, do you think that with the general knowledge of each of these fish that they would be ok together in a appropriate sized tank etc.
Thank you for taking the time to look,
Andrew
