Veterans Day Project

I hope the BOD has no problem with me posting this. If so, please let me know.

I have not been around very much as of late as I have not had a tank since December. But I have been working on a project that I feel is very special.

For a little more than a year, my company, 50/60 Productions, and BOMA/NY has been working with the Hope For The Warriors organization to help bring to light how they help our veterans returning from war.

With that, today is Veterans Day and we know that each of you join 50/60 Productions and BOMA/NY in honoring the service and sacrifice of Veterans across the country and spanning the generations. Within 50/60 and BOMA/NY, we have many members who have served or have family members who have served or are serving today. Thank you for your commitment to our security and to protecting our freedoms.

50/60 and BOMA/NY is committed to supporting the challenges faced by our veterans. We support Hope For The Warriors®, a national nonprofit organization that assists post-9/11 service members, their families, and families of the fallen who have sustained physical and psychological wounds in the line of duty. Hope For The Warriors® provides a full cycle of care that supports the entire military family.

I ask that you all take just a few minutes to watch this video and learn more about this dedicated nonprofit organization. This will be the first video in a series of four that highlight different program work accomplished by their staff and volunteers. Today’s video highlights Ronnie, a wounded veteran, who was first supported by Hope For The Warriors® programs. The organization helped Ronnie begin sailing, a sport that changed his life. Now, through Hope For The Warriors®, Ronnie helps other veterans learn to love sailing too. This is just one story of thousands and we know that once you have seen his work, you will want to do more.

And in honor of Veterans Day and all Veterans, please consider a donation to Hope For The Warriors® today. Hope For The Warriors® has earned a four-star rating through Charity Navigator for two years in a row. We assure you that your donation will go directly to the men and women who need your assistance today.

Visit hopeforthewarriors.org/BOMAdonate and help our nation’s Veterans today.

Also, please share this video with your family, friends, social media, etc to help get the word out about this great organization.

P.S.: Another Veteran’s family is also matching all donations right now. So by donating today, your donation will be doubled.

I have no problem with this post... it's for a great cause! In fact, I was considering making a post myself about another organization that is very similar to Steve's. Sorry if this is a thread-jacking, but I think if people are interested in your cause they may be interested in this one too:

This organization is one that my in-laws are frequent volunteers for when the Lt. Dan Band comes to Beaufort, SC... it's the Gary Sinise Foundation (GSF). If any of you have seen the movie "Forrest Gump", you will certainly know the actor Gary Sinise as he played Lt. Dan, the officer in the wheelchair who became good friends with Forrest. Well, while doing research for that part, Gary says it changed his life forever and that he began building a relationship with the military community. His foundation is dedicated to helping all veterans as well as first responders and the like... both currently enlisted and those who are no longer in service. My in-laws got involved because they're friends with the Owners of Palm Key, who host the Lt. Dan Band Benefit. They help out with cooking/serving food to the Vets as well as helping organize some of the fundraising and activities for the Vets.

The GSF is a large supporter for the "Get Skills to Work" organization, which is dedicated to help our Vets find a career after their term of service is over. They help specialize their training for specific jobs that can be done by even those with disabilities, etc. and find help put them in a career that they can prosper in.

Another group they support is the "Independence Fund". They (among other things) provide cool looking all-terrain wheelchairs to help disabled Vets that have mobility issues go just about anywhere they want. You can see what they look like on their website: http://www.independencefund.org/ These things are like mini tanks, so not only are they extremely functional but they look really cool and give Vets a sense of pride when operating one.

Anyway, just thought I'd put this one out there too if anyone is looking to get involved or even just to see that people do care and there's hope.
