Vinegar Bath Questions

I wanted to give my equipment a good cleaning, this includes a skimmer, pump, and powerheads. I heard that a vinegar bath is the way to go, but im not sure if anyone has really fully explained it.

How do you perform a vinegar bath? how long would you soak the items in for? What are the ingredients to make the bath? and is it the best way to go as far as cleaning?

Vinegar is a natural acidic cleaner that can/will remove mineral deposits as well. Plain white vinegar plus warm water is what's needed for the bath. I like a a cup of vinegar to a gallon of water myself. I let the pumps run in the bucket for 15-30 minutes and then take an old toothbrush to them if needed. I then rinse and run them in a bucket of plain water for 15-30 minutes and back in the tank. Once I'm done the pumps look almost brand new.

Same here but let it sit in the vinger bath for about 2 hours wont have to scrub so hard

Same here except I probably use more vinegar (I don't measure) and I just give a quick rinse with fresh water and then back into the tank it goes!

1 cup of vinegar to a gallon of water is for window washing! LOL I use it straight and haven't run into a problem yet. My wife always looks at me funny when I pick up a gallon or two when we are at BJ's

I've read it works better if you use ro water.

I use prob 1/2 and 1/2. Same idea let em soak, run them, then clean them. Rinse em good too

I use it straight up. Not on the rocks or anything. Can't hurt the plastic. Rinse well after.

Thanks for the input guys, I just eneded using 100% all white vinegar for my bath and it will be soaking overnight. I will do some srubbing 2moro...poor feathdusters and brittlestars :-\
