Hi all, we just concluded our first virtual meet. For those who attended, please give feedback here. It would be great to have these on a regular basis and have a crew of people to rotate as moderators since a host has to be present to start the meeting. Please post your thoughts, feedback, and ideas here.

I agree was good an interactive.

I just need a better angle so everyone can see my tank.

I used my IPad and flipped the camera. Felt it worked very well. Participants could see my tank and not ME. But I could see everything everyone was posting. A simple press of the button bang zoom I’m in the picture if need be. I also found the camera on side with the display did not color correct half as well as the camera on the backside. I was using a yellow filter that took a lot of the blue out but when using the side with display it overcompensated and tank look incorrectly yellow. My favorite part of the virtual meeting was that there was a topic. When we return or at least include face to face meetings. I would love to add SUBJECTS or TOPICS. I felt it added to the experience and expectations. By the way. This meetings topic was algae scrubber vs refugium. To add a final note to the meeting I’d like to say. They both can be a very effective tool to reduce nutrients but the added sanctuary for pods plus increased water volume for your system in my opinion gives the edge to the refugium

So I agree that refugiums do add water volume and are a great place to grow pods.
but most people don’t have space in their sump for good size refugium. The algae scrubber is very low profile and can easily added to your system.
if you have a nano you could use a algae reactor aNd take up no space.

How about topic suggestions From everyone

such as...
1. Alk, Mag, calc dosing methods.
2. Cups vs socks

4. minimizing the Challenges of a mixed reef
5. Vacations and tank maintenance
6. Lighting schedules
7. Power outages ”are you prepared”
8. Reefing vs personal / family life
9. Club improvement suggestions
A. How to Increase membership
B. Increased dues
C. Guest speakers
D. Advertising ie flyers at aquarium shops
E. Workshops (to teach new Reefers techniques)

How about nutrient control? On teh VM I think Joe was talking about dosing. So what does everybody use if they do, Vibrant, NoPOx, Vodka, peroxide, etc.

3 and 9. Sounds like great topics for the next one

My plan is to post a poll and whichever wins we go with. Carry over the poll each successive meet, and have people suggest additional topics. I think polls may be limited to 10 choices so we can carry over a running list.

I’m going to set up our virtual meet the week after July 4, and I’ll put out a call for a committee so several of us can set these up. Whoever leads a given meeting can decide how to go about setting a topic.

Haus, I like the idea but think to keep the club going we should start with 9, club improvements. Have already seen good coordination / effort of virtual meet.
Then we can poll he rest suggested.

I'm unsure how this interweb thing works. During the conversation can we post links?
It would be cool if folks did a bit of research on the topic, say 'WC v mineral dosing v System X additives' and they were able to post live links of research on the matter. Would help stimulate discussion and keep it on the rails perhaps.
