Vortech Night Mode???

So the MP40's I have are the Gen2 wireless units, not the ESw units. They have a Night Mode feature where I can set the pumps so they go down 50% in intensity for 10 hours every day. Does anyone use this?? Should I be using it?? Does the natural ocean calm down at night??

Right now I have my pumps on at about 80% power 24 hours a day....this would bring me to 80% for 14 hours and then 40% for 10 hours. If I were to use it....should it sync with my light schedule?? When should they go down to 40%??

Honestly I have never done it, I don't see a benefit too it but I could be wrong.

There is "slack" tide in the ocean, but its not a 10 hour period. The the period when the tide is changing from high to low. The ocean is always moving. Don't use it. I figure it would be good if your near the pumps when sleeping.

I use night mode on both tanks. I figure the fish swim their tales off all day, they deserve to rest and not get blown around the tank at night.

I use the night mode. #1 less energy use. #2 certain LPS corals close up at night and are stressed by high flow. #3 I figure the fish sleep better not getting blown all over the place.

I don't use it myself because I turn the power off when I feed the fish. When power is out it resets the night mode settings (default is off). I'd have to reset it every night so I don't bother.

My understanding is the reduced current allows your fish a chance to relax through the night because they don't swim so hard to stay in place.

I think you might get a more natural way of a similar affect by using the random reef crest mode. There will be shorter periods of reduced flow which is also more realistic.

having spent many evenings and nights fishing I can tell you for sure that the ocean does calm down at night unless there is a storm of course.

Why do you shut them off completely instead of using the "feed mode" feature? It would avoid you having to reset the night mode.

If there are multiple pumps and they are not wireless, I can see how flipping one switch would be easier.

Makes sense. I thought he was only running the one MP40 in his signature.
