Water changes, what do YOU think?

Hello there,

I am a nano owner and I have a 12 gallon AP with 24lbs of LR, no sand. I do a 2-2.5 gallon water change every Saturday. Matching parameters is like what 5 seconds. Temp.. ok, PH.. ok, SG.. ok.. Take it out.. clean out the crap, add the new water to the back chambers, turn on the return pump. Done. Overall time is 1hour and my tank is pristine each week. I have been doing this since I finished my cycle and I blow off my rock every 3 days with a turkey baster just to get the crap into the overflow. My nitrates are still between 5 and 10 and my PH won't go above 8. I have even added an air stone to see if removing some CO2 would bring it up. Next step is to add cheato and see if it consumes the remaining nitrates.. I don't think I will see a difference.

Carlo.. My Pinpoint PH monitor crapped out on me. My tank was never at 8.6 it was always at 7.9 during the night and around 8.03 during the day.. still can't keep the PH up. DKH is between 8-10 always.. Ca - 460 Mg 1380. Everything else is perfect SG is 1.025, temp is 78 constant. Just not sure what else to try to get that PH up. I don't think I will ever get my nitrates to 0. Phosphates are 0 and Silicate are less than .25.

Just the way a nano is at 3months 1 week?? I think so... Time will tell..

Water changes are your friend, they replenish over 65 other elements to the water we never even think about.. Why wouldn't you do water changes? I mean if you were on a submarine for 3 months breathing scrubbed air I am sure you would appreciate going to the surface just to get some fresh air once in awhile. I know I would.
