Water question

What is protocol for storing pure ocean water?,,, my idea is to fill lg garbage can and put a large air stone on bottom to keep water moving and add oxygen/// any thoughts out there. I’ve been using ocean water since the first day but this is first time attempting to store any for future use

That’s real interesting. What changes when it is stored
I know for me, I've never had good luck storing prepared saltwater for any length of time (a week or longer) even with a powerhead, or a heater it always got kinda slimy. Never could figure out y... but this was mixed salt water.. maybe the temp, I dont know... but I wound up just dumping it.

@Humblefish makes a great point about it wiping out pathogens bc itll starve them out... do you think other organisms dying off in the water could foul it? Like bacteria, micro living organisms?

I don’t know but will find out soon enough. I just got a air pump with 6 ports it’s got lots of power

Free swimming parasites are starved to death if they go that long without fish flesh to feed upon. However, harmful bacteria (and viruses) can survive for much longer so running the water through a UV would be the safest option. I know someone here in Florida who got Vibrio (i.e. flesh eating bacteria) in his tank from collecting water. Took out all his wrasses. He's just lucky he didn't become infected as well.

Holy crap. Don’t store it Pauli. That’s to much risk for convenience. Especially when your having so much success using it fresh. Hmmm with that said. What if he stored it with fish in it. Ahhhh never mind than that’s not storing it. That’s just running another system hahaha look at me discussing all by my self hahaha

My protocol for storing NSW is to store it. Thats it. Just put it in a container, go out to dinner, perhaps try the Merlot but stay away from the fried calamari.

The water won't miss you. It has been stored in the sea since way before Bernie Sanders was born.

Yes, it will cloud up in a couple of days, then clear. It doesn't matter, use it either way as those bacteria won't care.

If you are a Sissy, I mean if you are worried about parasites, call Humblefish and he will have you boil it in tree stump remover in a copper kettle after having it go through a diatom filter that is sitting in a UV light bulb factory that also manufactures Prizapro on the side. The left side. :rolleyes2:

Hi Bobby. ;)

To be fair, Vibrio is probably not as common in the colder ocean waters off NJ. Florida waters are the perfect breeding ground for everything. :oo: We are getting red tide for months in the summer, and it travels all the way up north to the panhandle where I am.

In Jersey we just have nuclear toxins and factory runoff
