We need more NJ Reefer Webcams ... happy to help!

Hey, I've got to tell you - I'm so proud of my FishCam(s). I continue to get great feedback from folks from all over the world (not just the NJ site - as I participate on a few other forums too). If you have broadband access at home, and your PC is on most of the time ... I'd be happy to help you get one setup. It's really cheap, a couple bucks for the webcam, and the software is a free download (for basic features).

Today, all 7 cams look great (I think!). Again, happy to help you guys - as I'd like to see 'live' views of other tanks! :)

i was wondering if you used a host server or did you create your own page for it? i like that idea. seen it used as a security feature but not for fish watching (besides absolutely fish website and you)

Yes - you can (leave your PC off). There's a LinkSys webcam that is a true network camera, you just plug it into your home network. About $100. Works really well. I've done that too, but found having a separate PC in my FishCam (yeah, I'm out of control). The LinkSys solution is easy.

I suppose it would be really cool, but some of us who work at certain institutions are blocked from visiting any "unknown" or "non-business" websites, which includes my dag AC-3 and would probably include my fishcam. Takes away some of the coolness.

As much as I enjoy your webcams, Sandee, I'm afraid if I hooked one up, the things folks would see "most" of the time is either my rear end (cause I'm bent over looking at my tank), or my butt on the stool in front of the tank. :-X

+1 for jerseywendy getting fishcam.

so what is the basic process?

signup for fishcam. setup cam at fishtank. install fishcam software? start cam.

My tank is in my office, and I have been wanting to do a fish cam for ever! Since I am in the groundwater buisness, I'd really like to start a company web site that links to my reef and also to other educational sites that promote clean water and both fresh and salt water conservation efforts.

... One day, in my spare time ::)

Bax: Well that would be easy, if you're all setup in an office - assuming you have a dedicated PC to use, or wireless (if you use the cool LinkSys no-PC-needed solution). Your profile says north Jersey, PM me, maybe I could stop over one day and help ya out! I'm in Wayne ...

The Lookdowns are having fun today! http://www.sandeeland.com/FishCam/

Wendy, I avoid 'butt shots' too! That's why most of the FishCams are close to the tank ... and those that are a few feet away, I just move or re-position!

Then again, I'm a bit of a show off!

I am right in Bloomingdale, very close by.

Would an older lap top, running an older 90's version of Windows be OK? I also have a couple of PC's that might be up to the task as well, I'd have to check em out they, may be new enough to run newer versions of windows, does it NEED to be XL or Vista?

What camera(s) would you recomend?

Once I get my 375 up and running, I really want to do this!

this is so cool!

i can access it at work!!

i am going to try to setup my webcam and see...
;)

thanks for the tips! (for webcamXP).
:D

I have been wanting to set one up , but tank is about 20 ft from the pc :(. Where can I get an USB extension cord for up to 30' :)

FYI ... I have 6 Creative WebCam NX Ultras. They have a wider angle than most other webcams. And yes, you need the more expensive USB ext. cable if you're going a distance. I have a small hub too, so I can plug everything in easily ...

So, who's next?

Nice shot of Trigger99's green Polyp guys (a trade for stuff!) ... :)
