Welcome To NJRC! Take a minute to introduce yourself

Hi reef people I'm Rodrigo or Rod as my wife's family calls me. I started keeping fish back in middle school when my dad surprised us all by bringing home a 55 gallon tank full of endlers. Mom was not happy but can't do anything about it when the kids are all in love with the tank. Almost 15 years later and I have had many planted aquariums from 5-55 gallons.
I started reef tanks about 3 years ago but faced a sad restart when I lost all my corals moving to Jersey (07109 area) from MD about a year ago. Very poor planning on my end in retrospect but a great and costly lesson. Now my 40B and 16 Bowfront are going well and I am seeing more coral frags making their way in lately begging for bigger tanks but sadly apartment life makes that hard to scale up. I've been snooping this forum for sometime but finally decided to join and try to be more social with the local community (at least online until this virus situation hopefully plays itself out) Happy reefing!

Welcome to NJRC @Roca1357. Once this coronavirus is gone we'll start having get forum together at members homes or LFS. It's nice to meet others with the same interests and see their tanks. I am very shy and find it easy to talk to the members here. They are a very caring, and fun group of members. Hope to meet you at one of our social gatherings!

Welcome Rod . fellow new(ish) guy here , Great group here , when the pandemic is over and before the next great scare hits us try to make it to a get together .

omg I'm so excited you joined. I mean for my own personal selfish reasons... means I'm not the new guy anymore!

lol.
really though. ahoy matey, welcome aboard!

Haha thanks! I'll wear the new guy badge until I lose it

@diana a Thanks! I'm a bit of a loner in general. If I'm not at work one can usual find me fishing on the beach, fishing on a river/lake or staring nonstop at fish tanks. With a little room in there for soccer and the wife. I'm far from the most talkative around groups of people but I feel good here so far :)

Hello Everyone!

My name is Joey. I've been keeping fish for close to 4 years now. The first 3 years were dedicated to freshwater, but I've always curious about reef tanks. At first I was like, "What's so special about coral? They just sit there and you watch them." Then I started to watch videos and read forums much like this one on the chemistry, gear, and husbandry it takes to properly run a reef tank. I thought it was so cool! I scoured the internet for something that can get my feet wet and went for a 15 gallon AIO last January. I made a lot of mistakes, but I also believe I had a lot of success and learned so much along the way thanks to the many forum posts, friends, and videos.

I'm a nurse at the local hospital here and I love my job!
Warning: Quick Covid mention. Unfortunately, last month I was one of the first people in the hospital to be diagnosed with Covid-19. It was a tough journey, I was sick for 1 week then I was hospitalized for 2 weeks. And in that time my reef tank crashed.

I'm looking to start over with a larger tank with better automation! I've been looking around for ideas until I stumbled upon this website. I was browsing for close to 2 weeks now and finally decided to join.
I'm excited to take on the new chapter of my hobby.
