I recently posted my experience at the Phoenix Aquarium (Sea Life Aquarium, Tempe, AZ), and thought I'd post to find out what aquariums you have visited.

Here are the ones I've visited recently:

Boston, MA
Baltimore, Maryland
Camden, NJ
Seattle, Washington
Juneau, Alaska
Birch Aquarium, La Jolla, California
Life Aquarium, Tempe, Arizona

So what aquariums have you visited?

Camden, NJ and the national aquarium Baltimore , make a weekend trip out of that to enjoy the inner harbor

We usually go to Baltimore in March. They have quite a nice selection of various habitat displays. Their new reef tank looks nice but the coral is not real (sigh). The one reef tank they do have I think the 3rd level is a decent collection of lps (blasto, echinata, favoids) and several rather large colonies of a tricolor sps, accented buy lot o shrooms.
The Camden aquarium is better than the Baltimore on one aspect, it's much more child friendly and more hands on. There were 3 different tanks for touching. By this I mean a 2 foot deep pool say15x12 ft where kids can touch all sorts of things. My 2yr old was about to jump in with em! One pool had sea apples that were absolutly beautiful! With regards to coral....one smallish tank with the Tolkien lps and a few sps....again prob tricolor.
My honest opinion for a true reef tank....our club members have hands down systems that beat most institutions. Maybe the Smithsonian does, the last time I was there was scouts 30 some odd years ago. Their reef tank had a series of water chambers filling up with water that when released would mimic crashing waves across a reef. They also had I believe algae for biological filtration. Like I said it was a long time ago.LOL

We usually go with the family a few times a year to the inner harbor and I thought the same thing Pete that monster reef display and it's all fake ugh

Whenever I travel local food and aquarium are on the top of my list to do. I have been to

Adventure Aquarium

Jenkinson's Aquarium Point Pleasant

Brooklyn Aquarium

Aquarium of Niagara

Georgia Aquarium - we had to take a detour due to Hurricane Irene. So we ended up in Atlanta and visited one of the best aquariums in the world.

Tennessee Aquarium - located in one of my favorite cities in American, Chattanooga. Bigger aquarium with a lot to see. Also one the few aquariums that bred Sea Dragons.

Aquarium de la Porte Dorée - this is a nice small aquarium just outside of Paris. It's in the basement of the immigration office! Very nice displays of planted tanks, Amazonian and African cichlids and reefs.

Sumida Aquarium - this one is in a bigger shopping mall in Tokyo. Spouse can shop if not interested. There are quite a few aquariums in Tokyo. This one has the famous Amano planted tanks. There are videos in youtube showing how the tanks were setup. Also the reef tank is huge and there are some nice corals.

Camden and AC for me. I'm surprised not to see the Long Island aquarium on anyone's list. Looks like a awesome setup and on my list of spots to see.

I left AC off my list...totally forgot about that one. Was there during MACNA in 2009.

I think the rainforest cafe in AC might have nicer tanks:). One of my favorite breakfast spots is next to the aquarium and go more for the pancakes:) My kids like the touch tanks and is a way to burn time on crappy days.
