Re: what eats Manjos

take them out quick or the rock out and scrape them off , Joes juice works but it seems that they come back if you dont get them good .

Re: what eats Manjos

If you use Joe's juice ....after you get him directly you should spray a little around the area to kill off any spores that could grow in it's place.

Re: what eats Manjos

i use kalkwasser paste. it works great. mix it real thick, put it in a syringe, turn off all flow, and shoot it right in the mouth. when it retracts, put another little glob over the place it was on the rock. you'll never see it again.

I don't actually feed them with superglue, I inject them with super glue. I have syringes and needles from sets that were expired or discarded unused, from work. I will get you a couple. The glue clogs the hole that the critter lives in as well.

Re: what eats Manjos

they are quite atractive...
;)

heck! when i first started in this hobby...

a LFS actually sell me a rock with full of them...
and i feed them daily with frozen shrimp! what a s**ker i was!

needless to say, my tank was full of them in about 3 months or so...
i have to take down the tank, and use tweezer to pick them out one by one...
i must removeed over 1000+ of them over a 10 days period!! (also thanks to Peter (fisheye) great effort...)

after that, i see few popup here and there, and i kept remove them about 6 per week or so for the first month... except fews inside the rock work that i could not get to... hope i can find a 10 inch long needle!!!
;)

found this pic with google search...

Re: what eats Manjos

I have both on my rock and it is driving me crazy. What I plan on doing when we do our change over to the new tank is as I take the rock out I'm going to use kalk paste on each one and before I'm ready to put it back in the new tank I'm going to usee a wire brush and scrub the $**t out of it. Or my husband heard somebody using a powerwasher on the rock. But my concern is using fresh water on the live rock would it hurt it. Any other suggestions would be appreciated

Re: what eats Mojajos

adesimone1,

with a brush or something, if you still have some left behind, it will grow back!

when i try to get rid of mine last time, i did get a power wash... but later on realized it was not practical, cause sometime they are inside some gap, or smaller rocks, it will end up with the rock got broken to smaller pieces, or roll all over the drive way!!! beside, fresh water, not too good for the rocks after the watch.

i did tried to use kalk paste, (remember it suppose to be thick paste - mean less water), but the needle is too small, and something it got clog up... and i got so frustrated! beside, once nuke them with kalk paste, is it suppose to put back in to the water or not? for few of them at a time is fine, but for hundreds of them, the tank is looking pretty white! like snow in the tank! (try to think about the pH reading at that time...) and you can't guareatee you got them all or not...

so, i end up with, put all the rocks in a 100g pony tank, WITH my MH on top of it, cause i still have corals attached to the rocks, if you don't put light on, some of the Mojajos will be close/shrink, then you can't tell which rocks have it, or where? with the lights on, i carefully move them out and then use the tweezer to pick them out one by one... then put in a seperate 20g tank... then place them back in the display tank when it gets a bit full...

first, touch them slightly for a few time, wait few secs, they will shrink, then you can be easily pick them out, make sure you wear EYE protection! cause they spit water out from the middle when you trying to remove them out.

well, not a fun job, but it works!

don't know what happened to the previous post, picture was lost... (here it comes again - image from google)

Hey David, I will get you a 10 inch long needle. They are spinal needles. The next time we open a sterile pack, I will get one, they usually have two and we end up throwing one out. Unless we miss! You will get those mojamos!

Re: what eats Manjos

If nature has check and balences, then what keeps marjanoes in check. Is there a Mr Joe who goes around to all the reefs of the worlds and squirts them with the "JUICE" or is it Dr.Kal Kwasser that shares his duties with Mr. Joe when he isnt around. I HATE these things.. Help me find something besides the juice and kalkwasser. :'(

Re: what eats Manjos

Just playing devils advocate here, but...

Everything in a tank is simulated...

Nobody climbs up into the sky and replaces big metal halides either. Nobody climbs into the back of the ocean and replaces filters. I understand and agree with what you're saying, but in a tank, I'd have to lean to the side of thinking that while we want to keep everything as close to nature as possible, our tanks in alot of ways are completely not natural.

I don't like the idea of using products like these, but maybe it's necessary...

on a side note...

To answer your question...I guess it depends on who you ask.

Some people cite things that eat em. One link states there are no natural predator of Majanos. The answer might be somewhere in the middle...
