What type of Fang Blenny is this??

Did a BIG FAT no no today and spontaneously picked up the fish below because I just knew he was mislabeled, and the price was laughable at best ($15.99) :D He was labeled as "Canary Blenny", which I'm pretty sure he isn't because of the black stripe.

Could this be a "Bundoon Blenny?" ???

He is gorgeous IMHO, and my Kole, who usually is a HUGE pain in the neck with any newcomer, won't get too close to him, probably because he knows this fish can nail him right back.

It sure looks like a Bundoon Blenny to me although it is the "Yellowist" one I've ever seen..They are usually paler looking.

Yes, I have to agree, even though I've never even seen a Bundoon in person. I've been researching like mad on the WWW, and for some reason all the other Bundoons seem much, MUCH darker, almost blackish as a matter of fact. Strange, isn't it? And this fellow/girl is quite large alreay. My guess would be around 3.5". :eek:

I'm not sure. I've never seen a bundoon with that much yellow. The one's I had were more green and black. It's not a canary either.

All I can say is good luck with it. We had 2 bundoons and 2 canaries and none of them lasted in either of our systems for more than a month.

Oh no! Why didn't they last, John? Now I'm worried. :(

This guy started eating the minute I placed him in the tank and added food. Hopefully he'll continue because he sure is pretty, and I would hate to lose him.

I'm not sure what happened to them. They were always out and about and eating fine. It was one of those things where every so often you'd go "Hey! Where is that bundoon? I don't think I've seen him in a while." After about a days worth of searching you'd just accept the fact that it was gone. All four of them went that way. I couldn't tell you why.

That the fish is eating is a good sign as is the fact that it is not being "picked on" by other fish. Also, being in a reef is
helps a lot. A live sand bed in the reef is another plus though I don't recall from other photos if you have one.

I've had the same problem as John, I had a Bundoon (which was predominately Green and Black) that was eating like a pig, then disappeared...not sure what happened to it!

Oh boy. Now I'm even more worried, after reading how John and Brian "lost" their Bundoons. How strange. I'll be keeping an extra close eye on this guy.

Dom, I have (medium) sandbed, and it's very much alive. Every once in a while I stir it up a wee bit (the top portion), and never the whole bed at once, only small portions, and I always see "surprise" critters all in/over it.

Since I had to treat for Red Bugs, I lost some of my pods, but I bought "Arctic Pods", in hopes of rep lenshing them quickly. So far so good. TONS of live down in there (including some pretty massive bristleworms ::))

So, should I definitely refer to my new guys as a "Bundoon" then?

IMO it looks more like a green canary blenny. Ive had several bundoons in store and theyre usually darker green with a black outline.

By Arctic Pods, are you referring to the orange ones from Reef Nutrition? If so, they are not live and will not replenish your pod population

They are by Reef Nutrition, and I made a BOO-BOO. It's the Tigger Pods that I picked up, NOT the Artic pods. :-[ I saw the Artic Pods and was intrigued. Sorry for the mix-up.

the pic you posted and the one in the link is the same as the meiacanthus bundoon (fang) blenny according to Scott Michael, I would say it's a bundoon fang blenny. I'm 99.99999% sure

Update on my new guy:
After the initial introduction he ate once, and never again. :(

I was REALLY discouraged, and imagining the worst.

Well, this morning he had a change of heart and eagerly went for dethawed brine shrimp saoked in garlic and zoe. ;D He's SO hungry that he comes right up to the eyedropper that I feed with - and it's made my day.

Hopefully he'll continue to do well. Fingers are crossed.
