What would do well in a Biocube?

Okay cool so what would you suggest then?
Nvm I see that it's extra. I'll be fine with the blues and whites, that's what's on my larger tank and I have good color

The way they have it set up is the bar of LEDs closest to the back wall are all royal blue. The front bar is a mix of white and blue. I would consider adding more white to the back bar. I currently have to turn the white blue up high to add more white and overcome all the blue. Just my thoughts. You are welcome to stop by and check out my setup if you want.

Okay that sounds good. Since I have the old oceanic hood, they offered to do a full install and all for the basic price of 150 if I send my hood. Can't pass that up. I was thinking 7 and 7 for the leds

Steve's LED's just recently became a sponsor of our club. I don't know if he'll give a discount, but it might be worth mentioning to him that you're a member here.

He donated a $125 gift cert that was supposed to be raffled off at our frag swap, but that's on hold until we reschedule it.

Thanks! i already placed my order but I emailed them to see.

So I sent my lid in today and paid about 180 total with shipping to have the lid fitted with LEds. It should arrive back to me in late november I assume. i will keep everyone updated.

So now that My Biocube will have led's, im considering turning it into a frag/quarentine tank. This is something I have always wanted but never had space for. My only question is without any live rock, will the filtration be enough? I will relocate my ywg goby to my large tank and leave my two ocellaris clowns and a few snails. Should I leave the sand in? I know most frag tanks dont have sand but if its a benefit then I will be fine with keeping it. The only filtration the tank would have is the filter pad in the first chamber, live rock rubble in chamber 2 and then a bag of chemipure where the blue sponge goes that seperates chamber 2 and 3. I would obviously remove all live rock from the display area except maybe one large rock that I would place under my frag stand. I also feed lightly. twice a week

So long as you are testing, and you are conscious of your water changes, I think you will be ok.

Yeah I plan on doing weekly changes of 3 gallons. I have never had any outbreaks of algae in this tank. are there any pros or cons to having the sand in there?

I did weekly 2-1/2 gallon water changes.

No sand means more flow. I had a MP-10 in my BC-8 and did not have to worry about any sand storms. :D

True but I have no plans on adding alot of flow. Just what I have will be fine for the frags. I never liked the bare bottom look very much

My main salt tank is a 29 bio cube led. I haven't had issues with any type of coral as long as it is placed properly.

Here is a quick shot I just took.

My LED's came with the Nano cube. I have the Nanocube 28 LED pro. I added 4 of the true luman 453nm pods to add extra blues but am planning on swapping them for ecoxotic stunners in the near future.

I had a rapid LED retrofit and it supported sps and clams well in my NC 12.

If I was to purchase a retrofit kit I would go with the steves LED kits. I really like the square tube heatsink they use with the forced air fans. I think it would be better for heat then the giant sinks that others use. Plus it could be modded to exhaust right out of the side of the canopy if you wanted. Less heat is always better.

as for brands, Bridgelux, CREE and Luxeon seem to be the 3 most popular. I prefer CREE out of the three, but have heard very good things about luxeon and mixed reviews from bridgelux.

Lots of options either way.. Just make sure you get good power supplies.. I have 2 friends that went with cheapo ebay ones and they fried their LED's. I use only meanwell for any LED project I have and they have never failed me.

Awesome well steves is retrofitting my lid for them as we speak and I got free install since they are using my lid as a template
