Does anyone know when cleaner shrimps eggs will hatch? 2 of my cleaners have eggs and I want to try and put one of them into my fuge to see if the babies will survive.
I've had them hatch once before, usually within a few days (or from when I noticed). chances are most fish, inverts, and even the parent shrimp themselves may consume the eggs. Usually the babies end up in the filter. It's possible though, but hard to sustain and feed the newborns. There's a few good threads on breeding them if you search online.
As shawn said it is very hard to raise them and the yields are generally very low. We just consider it free fish food. They generally hatch at night after lights off, so if you can catch them now I would drop them in the fuge now.

I don't know how long they carry the eggs, as ours pretty much stay with eggs constantly. As soon as they hatch within a few days they will be carrying again. After a while you can get a feel by looking at the size of the eggs and the color and know they are going to hatch soon.
I understand that the larvae are released at about 13 days after spawning.
It takes 4 months for them to go through all of their larval stages. Your best bet would be with a Kriesel, although you could also try a black tub. Check out the breeders registry and the marine breeding initiitve. Also take a look at Www.reefcentral.com/forums/show thread.php?threadid=846955. I know it is an old thread, but it has some good info.
Also take a look at Palmtags article on captive raising fire shrimp.
Mine hatch all at once about once a month literally about 5 minutes after the lights go out on que. The fish go nuts for them, my pipefish is especially fat and happy that night every month.
