I got macro from several differ tanks, as well and a scoop of sand or even a small piece of live rock where I could, the crap on the bottom of a refugium is gold as well.
Works out so much better then ordering pods, and wondering what your getting.

I used algae barn also!!
I seeded with algae barn 5280 (multiple species) as well. I’ve read where people without a fuge make a rubble pile in their display and seed that so some pods can multiply In there where they can’t be reached.
I’ve also used the bottled reef nutrition tigger pods to boost the population at times (major league carries them sometimes, and has ordered them when I’ve asked)

I used to love Aquarium Depot with the large pod orders, but having problems lately.
Agree on the Algae Barn 5280. Though Andrew has been carrying them as well lately, just have to ask.
I have a section of my sump loaded with bioballs, I drop half the packet in there to breed up and the other half in the tank (power heads off and in the dark).
You can add phyto which helps, but if the tank is established enough they're happy living on detritus and the odd bits that get through.
I haven't used any phyto and at night I can see them all over the walls of the sump (and many of those will make their way into the main tank).
If you have big pod eaters (wrasse, dragonette, etc) you should occasionally top up.
I started with a bag or bottle a month for 3 months, now I do a bottle every other month or so.

@Mark_C how do the pods make it up into tank? I have RSS350 and there is a bubble pad between the outflow and main sump area. I'd probably have to remove the bubble pad so they could cross over and up the outflow. Also, outflow pressure going up doesn't kill them?

They'll make it up through the returns as long as you don't have a sponge in the way (Hi Matt!). My pod population in the sump is considerable and I lose some to the protein skimmer and an in-line reactor on the return. Still get plenty seeding the main though, pressure doesn't hurt them, for their size they're wearing medieval plate armor.
