World Oceans Day at Adventure Aquarium

The New Jersey Reefers Club made an appearance today at Adventure Aquariums for their 1st Official World Oceans Day. We made some friends today and made some great connections for all of our future events. Also a possible donation/swap of frags between the club and the Aquarium.

We set up an 8 foot table with a 12 gallon nano cube DX with some of the nicest frags and colonies of corals you've ever seen. It was a Frogspawn that was a glowing neon colors, lots of bright colored zoos and blastos. This might have been the biggest draw to the table. Kids were so amazed that they could be literally inches away from coral.

We had pamphlets from the Ocean Conservancy, NJ Reefers Club pens (big draw for the adults), bookmarks that were another big draw. We had wrist bands that promoted recycling, reusing, and reducing. We had aquarium fish magazines from 2007 that were another hot ticket item. The squishy clownfish made limited appearences but left with many new happy fishowners. We gave out over 250 pens, 200 wristbands, over 200 bookmarks and close to 150 applications. If we saw you today and your just checking out this post please sign up and reply and let us know how we did.

I want to thank Phyl, John, Brian, Deb and their kids for their help and Kim. We really made an impact on alot of the people and I hope inspired some future responsible reef enthusiast.

A lot of good connections were made with local conservation groups and with the Acadmecy for Marine Science (I may have written that wrong sorry ). We will defintely be hearing from them in the future about some projects that we can help out on.

I know Phyl will be posting some pictures for everyone to see. So enjoy there is so much more to talk about whatever I missed I hope everyone else who stopped by can add in.

Were also going to be on TV represented by our VP Brian, I hope he gets to read this thread before its on TV so we can all have a channel and time.

Last but not least.... BAX and his daughter made a visit and helped to boost our numbers and morale.

I believe it's the Channel 10 NBC affiliate out of Philadelphia. I'm not sure if he was going to be on the 6:00 or 11:00 broadcast. We missed the 6:00 but have the 11:00 set up to tape, so hopefully we'll catch it.

Onto the day, it was really a good time. GREAT JOB Barry and Kim. You guys did a great job of setting this up and making it all possible. Thanks a lot!

It was definitely a good time. And to reiterate what Barry said, we did make some really cool connections that are very consistent with our overall mission of promoting reef ecology and awareness. I know we're looking forward to reaching out to those groups to see how we can all work together.

Thanks again to Barry and his efforts with the Conservation Committee for pulling off another great event.

Barry, thanks so much for setting the day up and making sure it was a great success. Thanks Kim for being there to help staff the booth! We had a great day, made some new friends and talked to lots of people about saltwater aquariums and protecting our oceans.

This really was a nice day! I'll third (or fourth?!) the thanks to everyone that attended. Hopefully we drummed up a lot of new support/members/friends for the club!

I honestly hope I'm not on TV. lol What a great way to make an appearance...(( They walk over, basically nudge this unsuspecting little girl over to the table, say ask him questions about this and they point to the tank...I was like uhh...ok, horrific! )) If does make it on there, hopefully I was "representing" well enough. ;)

It's the cutting room floor for you! The whole piece they aired during 11:00 broadcast lasted about 20 seconds and it was completely centered around them lowering the artificial reef ball into one of the tanks.

Hmm...I have this strange combination of relief, mixed with a tinge of depression.

Great job - thanks much to the organizers!

I wish we could have gone...I elbowed it out with parents/friends of 100 plus ballerinas. Fun...I feel asleep towards the end. :p

Are we ordering more orange squeeshies for this 08 frag swap? I missed out!
