WTF is in my tank!!!

Rant me out if you want to, but I'm gonna say it nonetheless: Total overacation!

You don't actually know WHAT you saw. It may be harmful - but it may also be harmless. When acquiring live rock you always take the change of potentially putting something "harmful" into your tank.

Please don't take any drastic measures until you have a general idea what you're dealing with.

Sorry if my comment upset you, but that's how I feel - and I did encounter several "unknown critters" when startintg off with live rock.

JerseyWendy you're right 100%, but the other aspect of that is my tank has been running 4 months now and I have yet to see this thing until a few weeks ago when I added a rock of zoas I bought.

I want to rescape my rock anyway and move some corals around so it would not be difficult in finding the culprit.

maybe try to put a small ziplock bag over the hole with a piece of shrimp in it, and keep an eye on it. maybe it will crawl out of the hole into the bag and you can grab him. i have never tried it before, but it may work...then again, it may not. :)

When I was 4 months in I loved seeing 'unknown critters' since they were ALL unknown/new to me :)

The spider I had posted earlier was actually a zoa spider.. at least that's my assumption since I found it on a piece of LR that I picked up from a local club member during my first ever swap meet. It was VERY small and taken with a 90mm macro lens. I'm attaching another photo for perspective.

At the same time, I picked up spaghetti worms, brittle stars and astrea stars. I could not imagine loosing the others from my tank since they are all flourishing and reproducing now. i would normally get rid of unwanted stuff by taking the piece of LR out and putting it into a shallow container. Then I go over it with a pair of tweezers and see what i can find. But, supposedly things die whenever you take LR out, and this die-off can affect water paramaters. I'm not sure if that is a concern with a 4month old 14gal tank.

I'm not sure what type of Zoa this is.. but they have always been about 1/2 of the size of my largest watermelon zoa.

If you were able to draw it out. Why not use a fish net, hold it over his cave, once he comes out, block the entrance and scoop him out.

Probably going to either A.) Dip the Rock or B.) Wait until the 135 is setup and then handle it.

Good seeing you today Steve, you can see what has consumed my life for the last couple weeks. 60 hours this week .....
