Yellow spot wrass :(

Jumped out of my tank. Found him this morning. I have 2 screens covering each side of the tank. Tank had center glass brace so I went with 2 frames and brs clear mesh. I think cause I put egg crate squares at each corner to lift metal up off tank rim (wanted to keep aluminum from getting wet) and this made a gap. My kids said he jumped once last week by shooting up and out the gap onto the center brace and then flipped and flopped off onto the floor. They saved him that time. I should have taken blocks out then. But I was like no way it will happen twice. I should have known. Actually thinking about it he once jumped out over center brace and back into the tank while I was standing there. Crazy fish. Needless to say I'm bummed. I lowered the screens do they are tight on the tank top. He was beautiful too over 6 inches and fat. Lesson learned.

Sorry for your loss. I need to make a top for my new tank and finish these two for a friend. Whats the problem with aluminum getting wet?

I was just being over cautious. Corrosion and all. But it's been a few months and the frame has been ok. I got screen parts from Home Depot. It's powder coated So anyway it is now tight to the top of the tank. Won't be losing another wrasse.

There's a reason they use aluminum and not other metals. The aluminum will not corrode like other metals. It will accumulate some but not as much and not as fast.

Got a new fish. Same type yellow spot fairy wrasse. Small guy but colors are beautiful. He was acclimated properly and is out and eating. :).

I screwed the pooch on this. I wanted to replace the wrasse that jumped. Found one and mail ordered him. Beautiful fish. Didn't have a quarantine tank set up so I drip acclimated him and put him in my display. Saw spots today. It's been 2 days. Going to pull rock and see if I can get him out. Big job to say the least! Not sure how quick ick spreads. I read about doing frequent water changes to help limit its spread. My hospital tank is small. I have 3 tangs, 3 clowns, 6 orbic cardinals, 2 scissor tails, sick wrass, royal gramma. I think that is it. I'm going to treat the wrasse and hope no one else gets sick. I thought I read somewhere that healthy fish can pull through an infection. Then I think of Sunny's story...... Any suggestions? I have copper treatment and a small UV I will run in the hospital tank. I just gotta get him out and pray.

I did a lot of reading on ick and its Tx. I took my reef apart (12 hours on sunday) got my new friend out and set him up in a hospital tank and am treating with copper. I waited a day a so to see if he would get worse and he had more sports. Mind you they were not covering him but were enough to notice. Curt came over and he saw them. Im using Mardels (spelling) and following their recommended dosage. So far my other fish are healthy and eating well. The wrasse is comfortable and also eating well. The pvc tees and elbows made him quite happy. I am hopeful that I dodged a bullet. Its significant to me that I have bought my fish from Trop or the guys in Freehold and never saw any ick. I mail ordered the wrasse and do believe the stress of the trip (and perhaps the company's aquaculture practices) had some thing to do with it. On the bright side i now have an outstanding rock set up (as determined by Curt and more importantly my wife). ill put pictures up later. im going to treat for six weeks so September 27 is move date. Ill update with any significant details.

Update Main tank is ick free so far. Lets hope that continues. My wrasse is isolated and being treated with copper in a 20 gal hospital tank. He is eating well tho he hides from me in a flash.

It always sucks to loose a fish, hopefully the new one doesn't go surfing.

Update. Main tank is clear. Yellow spot fairy wrasse is in Cu and doing well. He will be clear sept 26 and ill acclimate him back to main tank. Interesting find the other day. 2 tiny bright pink annenomis I clean cut one off the rock with a razor. The other not so good. Broke up into parts I scooped it out but felt stings on my arm from it. Hope I got it all. Just no idea where they came from. Gotta keep an eye out. Other news the frags I got from darren at the swap are doing well. Lost 3 small colonies of zoos. One was a fluorescent green slow grower I got from Greg and the other 2 were pretty zoos I won at the swap. I guess taking the tank apart to get the wrasse out upset them. The 2 acropora I got from darren are doing well also.
