Zapping mojanos

I took a video of the thing working. The mojano becomes a little ball of slime that disappears in an hour or so.

Someone on another forum posted that on the model he was building he had to replace the graphite electrode in a few minutes so I did a test. I ran these two electrodes in salt water continousely for one hour. As you can see by the picture, there is no decay on either electrode. The graphite is slightly discolored because it is still wet.

I shipped about 30 of these things and so far (thank God) I have not had any complaints. The Post Office lost two of them but thats about it.
If I knew I had to ship so many, I would have hired a spokes model. I wonder if there are any un imployed supermodels that want to work for peanuts. 8)
The graphite seems to last forever with no noticeable wear and so does the stainless steel. For the tip I use solid stainless steel wire that is used for shark fishing. It is not that easy to get but it comes in 25' rolls and I cut pieces off of it on a sharp angle so it easily pierces a mojano. You can see it in the above picture.
I have not heard of any problems with the gasses either, as a matter of fact, I think my corals look better. :)
I use three sealing methods in different parts of the device along with shrink tubing.
But basically you connect the negative electrode to the tip and the positive to the graphite. It doesen't matter how you do it but thats mainly what you need to do. And of course, don't let any copper come in contact with the water.

Works just like in the video.Nice work Paul.I'm able to zap mojanos that are right in the middle of a zoa colony without touching any zoas. Also works on unwanted zoas and mushrooms.Has a long reach so you can get into tight spots.I'm very happy with the zapper.

I am glad they are working so well. As you know it is a very new design so I design out any bugs I hear about. You guys use it a lot more than I do because I zapped most of my mojanos so I look for feedback to make improvements.
I really did not want to get into the mojano business because now it's boating season so I build them wherever I get some free time.
Thanks guys.
Have a great day.

When you zap the mojanos do they get a chance to release more spores?

Here are three reviews I received from other forums.

just tried the zapper last night. awesome....fun to watch it "boiled" and disintegrated them sob's....both majano and aiptasia. the long tube and angled neck work perfectly in a deep tank.....i could never reach them by any other means. great invention....two fins up!!!! thank you mr. b.

Hey paul,
I received the zapper, and it works great. I am a little worried about putting too much mojano juice into the tank at one time though, so am only zapping about 20 a day. (yes, I am completely over run with the little bastards)

Thanks again,

Here is my newest model. The shrink tubing is just for looks to hide the solder joints inside the tube.

Here is another review from another forum

i have one of paul b.'s zapper. i have used it on aiptasia, majano and brown polyps. it's only been about a week but i've not seen any of them coming back. i got carried away and accidentally zapped my monti confusa while "boiling" the majano. it does take a while (like 5-10 seconds burst) to melt the majano. when the probe tip touch the monti, i had the deadman switch pressed for perhaps 1-2 seconds....didn't see any problem there and it's been several days now. so i would say if you don't jab and really boil them intentionally, you shouldn't have any problems.

I use a hypodermic needle and a slurry of kalkwasser. It does the trick everytime.

You can do that if you like, I also did that for years. It is a lot cheaper too. ;D
