Zoos population

I bought a colony of 12 polyps of PPEs abut a month ago, It had grown to 16 polyps so i fragged 2 pieces one 3 polyp and one 1 polyp about 2 weeks ago, the original colony has grown 2 mor epolyps while the fragged ones have yet to grow any.

i have fragged some that afterwards have grown great but have had others lose color or even die off. Im not sure what makes them do it.

Let me apologize in advance of the poor pics :(

I started with these

used this scalpel

instead of actually making a new frag, I isolated one polyp by cutting here

as seen in the next pic both connectors to the colony are now broken and it's sitting there all alone

Time will tell ;)

Zoas multiply by budding. They grow faster in some tank then in others. I don't think from what i read that you can speed up the process. I think the speed at which they grow is dependent on the Zoa and the environment it is housed in. But i could be wrong

Just an update, just took a good look at the original colony of PPEs and I saw 3 small polyps that i didnt notice before. That brings the total polyp count from 12 when i got it to about 19 now in about a month and a half. The 3 polyps frag is acclimating nicely on the plug and the polyps themselves have grown over the glue and seem ready to bud...I will keep you updated

I have zoas right next to each other and some grow very quickly while others grow very slowly or in between. I too think it depends on the actual type of zoa.

Good stuff Francis. I myself just got my scalpel so i'll be doing it soon.

Sorry Francis, I couldn't find anything to cut them with so I had to get a scalpel. I'll be cutting all four of mine to see what's up.

Another update.... The single adult polyp PPE i fragged has grown over the glue and has 2 baby heads now, You can see the polyps but they have yet to open up. Im getting decent growth rate on these PPEs. The 3 polyps PPE are just starting to bulge but new heads should be here soon!

When talking to the owner of seatreasures at the swap, he explained that making small cuts with razor blades between polyps encourages growth.
