Is it safe to take a razor and scrape the bottom of the zoas on a plug in order to place them on live rock?

Really like the orange ones and I live blocks away from the store. If I receive zoas on a plug can I scrape them off and place them directly on rock without killing them?

For no resaon that I know of my pulsating xenia closed up and looked dead (2 stalks). As per advice I left it alone and after a few days it came back to life larger than before.
