The conch is amazing. Everywhere it goes it leaves pristine white sand behind. Mine happens to be a tiger conch. The fighting conch are supposed to be good too.
I have had a problem with brownish stringy substance on my rocks. I suspect it is dynoflagellates. It used to be on my sand bed too, but I bought a conch, and it cleaned the sand spotless. I can’t seam to get it off my rock. I blast it away daily. It grows right back. I have less than 5...
When I tried to run a very big skimmer in my 40, I had a very hard time. I never got it dialed in. I had to go out and buy a smaller one, which is now manageable, but I Shiuld have gotten a even smaller one. That looks like a good skimmer. Pretty good chance someone will make a good trade down...
No. I kind of misused the tail of the tank as my build thread. I guess it’s never to late to start one though. My drilling, plumbing and sump layout was done at Ocean Image Aquatics.
Please refer to my tail of the tank thread. I posted my reply on that by accident. There are some pics taken today and a breef discription of my system.
Sure here is a couple pics (Im a lousy photographer). A breef discription: I did have the tank drilled. The sump is made out of a 20L. I use jebao return pump and power heads. There cheep, but they work good, if you can live with the wires in the display. The skimmer is a Reef octo 110 SS. It’s...

I only rinse mine in tank water. Never fresh water. I just grab a bucket of tank water, rinse my sock. I believe there is a good colony of bacteria living in the fibers of the sock, that is beneficial. It also does a mini water change every time, which doesn’t hurt.
I use a single micron sock. It use to clog and overflow frequently. I was thinking about converted to a dual. Now that my tank has been up and running for a while, it does not get clogged very much. Im sticking with the single. I rinse it as often as possible. I replace it with a new one ever...
