Today it seems my tank has finally cycled (ammonia doesn't seem exactly at 0), and diatoms also showed up today. I'm thinking of just leaving the diatoms alone, and let it run its course, from what I understand, if you leave it alone it goes away, right? I also want/need to buy new testing kits...
so the sand I got is a bit darker than what I have now, so I guess I won't be adding sand for now lol. Anyways, I got a question, at what level of Ammonia does Nitrite start to rise? Normally how many days in the cycle is that? I know it is a little early since the shrimp has been in the tank...
Small update, built a stand with an egg crate, better tuned the skimmer, and it has now pulled the majority of the sand that was just flowing in the water. (some people had complained that the sad I used was very muddy, and that is exactly the case). Today I also inserted a 200-micron sock, (...
Erm, I had gotten live sand, and didn't want to kill or get rid of anything beneficial to the tank. Maybe I should have rinsed a bit, if that's the case I'm sure once I get the socks going it will help with the cloudiness then.
Is it normal for the water to still be cloudy after the 3rd day? I used Reef Saver, IDK if that is part of the reason or maybe the fact that I don't yet have a sock installed. But after shutting off the powerhead I thought it would have cleared up a bit, but it barely helped. Any thoughts?
I think it's too early to tell, but I do wish I had more space on the skimmer side, if I were to add a 2nd sock things will start to cramp up. I'm sure people with actual experience can give you better advice on better sump set up.
IDK if you can see those 2 metal circles on the leg of the stand, they are high intensity magnets, I'm planning on just doing 3 separate sheets of plywood, wrapped in vinyl for each side of the cabinet, using the magnets to hold the panels up. I have all the material needed only problem was the...
It took me a little bit of time, and I'm still not finished since I still need to wrap the stand and also build a shelve for the electronics. but yesterday I was finally able to dump water in, and start the main process. I don't know if anyone will read this, as this is a pretty old thread...
