    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

I'm putting them in the cube. Do you see any potential problems there? I'd never see them in the big reef.

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

Great mantis shrimp show on Nat Geo TV last night, "killer shrimp!" Featuring Dr. Roy Caldwell. Super hi def prawnography! Ordered a couple of candy cane pistols and a couple more shrimp gobies for the tank. Should be fun! Also a couple of bumblebee shrimp, I love those guys. When I bought...

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

Here's the shrimp and goby. this is just the first pic I was able to get, I've gotten some others since. I added some little Hawaiian hermits and the shrimp snapped at one when he tried to enter the burrow. I added a single firefish today for some midwater action. I was watching the biocube for...

Ummmmmm.....the brain receded and died when I was on vacation. Tough year in Reefville. The blenny is doing fine though.

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

Do you know anything about the little candy-cane guys (A. Randalli)? I was going to add a couple of those and a couple of hi-blackfin gobies. He's sure industrious. There was a new burrow in a better spot this morning, and he was carrying loads of gravel right over the goby's back!

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

My local connection for pistol shrimp crapped out. I made it a few more days before I gave into temptation and plunked down $24 for a tiger pistol shrimp at Ab Fish. When you got it, you can charge for it! Well it could hardly have gone any better! I carefully drip-acclimated the shrimp, and...

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

The butterflies settled right in. The stayed in one corner for ghe first day. The PBT has calmed down and only bothers them a little. Now cruising the whole tank, eating frozen food and pellets, they are good fish!

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

They rubbed their foreheads together. It was jaw-dropping. Things have calmed down a bit, they are swimming around and picking at rocks.

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

The Burgess' Butterflies have arrived! Trying to limit aggression from the PBT with a mirror, not having much luck. They are sticking together though, that helps. They did a super-cute nuzzling thing when they were reunited after their long trip in separate bags.

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

Well this is sort of a tease, but I won't be taking any flash pictures of them (if they even arrive alive, etc etc..) for a while. Here they are...

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

Bought my first exciting fish purchase in a long time for the big reef -- a PAIR of Burgess' butterflies from DD. I hope this works okay. They are supposed to be pretty reef-safe, and also pretty tough. Fingers crossed. Expensive, more than 2X the cost of a Burgess. The Biocube is going to get a...

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

The InTank media tray is a nicely made item, and costs top dollar like anything handmade in the US. Fits perfectly. The nano cube people love this stuff I've never used in a big reef tank, Boyd chemi-pure and Seachem Purigen. The need for filtration in a tiny tank is much more critical, I wish I...

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

Color continues to return to my acros, I must be doing something right. A couple have really left the building though. Have to stay on the water quality issues. Just changed 50G, making another 50G this weekend. I'm thinking about removing some of my more algae-encrusted rocks for cooking, it's...

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

I'm going to have to figure out how to remove the remaining deposit in the sump without causing another incident or cracking the sump. Which is, of course, hard plumbed. It's amazing in there, it looks like Carlsbad Caverns. I suspect it's going to involve shutting down the return pump and using...

    Jimroth's Big Ol' Tank

I've done a bad thing to my tank and I didn't mean to. :( The water wasn't flowing through the return fast enough so the siphon started sucking air. I wen to check it and found that my two part had deposited a great deal of residue, I dunno what, in the last chamber of my sump. Like a couple of...
