why are you in such a hurry to put the rock back? why not let it bake in the sun for few days until the rock completely white and dry then soak it in fresh water and clean then back to main tank.

I think your question is quite subjective. if your tank aren't load with alot of SPS then you can dose manually. othewise, I would go with reactor. with a tank size larger than 240gallon, I would setup the reactor or at least in your plumping should include the readiness of the reactor hookup...
