if you want to save those rocks for next fresh setup (3months cycle and mature), I would recommend you to take the rock out, dry / bake it under summer sun which is the best energy free to clean your rock. once rocks are all white and dry, buy those big plastic brush and brush all the stuff that...

i knew that you are in the hobby probably longer than me and knew more than me but I would recommend that setup the tank like fresh setup and let it cycle. 3 months isn't that long and within that 3 months, you have time to prove out your system. fix, add, twist anything that need to the setup.
