I use return pump and powerhead. General reccomendation is 20x turnover. That means if you have a 40 gallon tank you want ~800GPH, less if its a softie/FOWLR tank, more if its an SPS dominated tank. For a 65 gal DT I'd probably want 1500 GPH throughout 2-3 powerheads and a return pump. Sent...
